I don't think anyone is denying PCs are great for gaming. But price and many great games being exclusive to consoles make consoles more appealing for most.

My computer isn't capable of playing high end games, however it plays OnLive perfectly which I use regularly. I think services like OnLive can really help PC gaming grow if more publishers would support it.

price isn't a point for me anymore. i thought like this in the past as well but then i thought "hmm gaming or not, i need a pc" and if i buy a pc and put in the extra money i would need for a console i have a good gaming pc. since 2005 i paid like 250€ just for xbox-live...console games cost more here which increases the costs as well. you say your computer isn't capable of playing high end games, but you didn't put some hundred bucks in it just for gaming. but this wouldn't be something different to a console purchase.

so i believe i didn't pay more for pc gaming than i did for my 360 or ps3.and if you only have money for one system you have to look which exclusives or other stuff you like most. but only gaming on pc isn't expensive if you need a pc.

I see your point. Xbox most notably can be quite expensive over the years. But that really only applies if you're a Gold subscriber.

There is no way you get a high end gaming PC for $200 - $250. I don't think you can even buy a decent PC for $200. And a gaming PC from 2005 probably won't play modern games particularly well.

It should also be noted local (split screen) multiplayer is rare on the PC. Which is a huge advantage consoles have.

Anyhow, PC gaming is great and OnLive lets me dabble in the high end stuff. Currently playing The Witcher via OnLive. But the reasons the masses choose consoles is pretty obvious.

I know what you mean.

I love and prefer my console experiences, but there are some games that just suit PC so well. I love the bump in graphics and frame-rate, the ability to mod the game and the mouse and keyboard combo. Sometimes I just wish I wasn't so OCD and think that I need a physical copy, trophies / achievements and to keep similar games on one system. I played Fallout 3 on PC yesterday and I was having a blast, I regret buying Skyrim for the 360.

I have exactly the same feeling. I am planning on building a gaming PC, but I really love the PS3 and its ecosystem, and to be able to look on my shelf and see 100+ games there is just great. Of course, having trophies on top of that....

But there are many many advantages of PC gaming, especially if you buy yourself an Xbox controller for PC, you have almost everything a console gamer has, just missing the slightly more cohirent ecosystem and console exclusives (hence I will own a Sony platform so long as SCE WWS keeps pumping out great games), BUT then of course you get better graphics in PC and can mod the game

In terms of pricing, consoles are the obvious choice, but if you can afford it, PC gaming seems to offer a lot more

how has onlive been for you? When i get a tablet later this year i am thinking of trying it out. I tried it in when they first launched and there was a little input lag, has that been improved?

The support of the 360 controller really helped give it that console feel.

No Trophy, no buy.

I used to be a PC gamer first and foremost but I like to have all my games in the same place. On PC it's a pain to reinstall all your games when you upgrade to a new harddrive, and it's a pain to patch old games and upgrade to proper video drivers.

Being a PC gamer since 1995 I am very tired of the hassle and constant crash to desktop.

On PS3 it's just plug and play and everything always works and never crashes. And no annoying boot up time, if I want to play Im inside the game within 15 seconds.

Plus you have Trophies. I love the universal experience thanks to Trophies. All my games tie into each other thanks to the Trophy system which gives extra meaning and context to play even mediocre games.
(Steam achievements do nothing for me because not all games are supported by it, plus no one gives me respect for Steam achievements).

I do want to be able to experience the PC gaming experience too though. For some games PC is superior (RTS and FPS) and for Elder Scrolls a PC is essential due to mods. So I will replace my PC from 2008 one day, with all these new GPUs coming out it's just hard to know exactly when to do it.

I'm guessing you never bought Gran Turismo nor a FIFA game then.

I like all my consoles equally. I use my PC for more Multiplat games if it supports controllers (I dont like keyboard/mouse). Im also not a huge fan of multiplayer on PC other than TF2 and Counterstrike. My 360 is used for multiplayer and exclusives, and my ps3 are used for exclusives. The wii for exclusives as well.

250 for xbox live + 400 i had to pay when i bought my 360 in 2005 (i said i bought the console in 2005). this means, live or not, i had to pay 400€. and if i would buy a pc now for my job without the idea to play games on it , i would buy one for 600€ or so. but if i wish to use the pc for gaming, i can put 400€ extra in the pc instead of buying a console on release. this would be a 1k pc. and after some years, i could upgrade the pc with the money i saved with the lower game prices or as example i would pay for a new xbox like most of the people who bought the old white 20gb xbox did.

i still buy consoles because of the exclusives and some friends always buy this or that console and i love to play with rl friends but a gaming pc and an uprgade after few years wouldn't cost more for me than a console with all extra costs over 8 years or so.

you said you

Soon we can also play with our friends that cannot afford a PC...

True. I don't bother to play GT5 because the start up time is so damn long. But I didn't know FIFA had long start up time too.

Steam got be back to pc gaming. Just upgraded my video card so i can go through some of my backlog. Got 9800 GTX+. I know it is sort of an old card but upgraded from Radeon HD 4350 haha. Even the indie games lagged on that. So pretty happy with that. I enjoy playing games on ps3 too. :)
