If you're into shooters, and want to check out a slick and beautiful free-to-play game that just came out (art style and weapons remind me of Halo) then check out "Tribes: Ascend." It's a beautiful game. And free

This is where you are wrong...  The Tribes series came out before the Halo series and I regard the first game as way more advance than Halo.  The first Tribes game was one of the first FPS to allow 20+ people playing at the same time (back during the days most people only had a 56k while I was rocking an ISDN) with vehicles, bases, jet packs, etc...   Halo reminds me of Tribes but worse.

PC is only for FPS, RTS and MMO games............oh! and emulators

Are you an apple fanboy in disguise ?

I recommend all gamers to atleast get a decent gaming computer - and today you won't have to sell your kidneys to be able to afford one - so that you can experience the vast library of awsome PC titles. I got my laptop for 6000sek, which translates to ~$600, and I while it's far from a power house I can atleast play Skyrim on High settings, and that's enough to satisfy me.
I've never enjoyed having to install games and update them every now and then, but I'd rather go through that pain than to lose mod support.

Quake 2 came out a year before and had a couple of 64-player maps, though it was hard to find servers that had them. I agree with the rest of what you said.

I'm with you brotha! Except, I haven't got AC: Rev yet. Getting the PC version might be a good idea.

Don't get it, just watch the ending its yet another cliffhanger.

Who plays games for just the story?

It's the PC-Console cycle. It happens every generations.

This is how it goes:

PC gaming is popular, but fades as new consoles are released with exciting new features and exclusive 1st party games. Then as the consoles start to age and exclusives start to slow down PC gaming starts getting more attention because it didn't age, in fact while nobody was watching PC gaming got better. PC goes back to being popular, the games looks and play great, but the popularity fades as new consoles are released with exciting new features and 1st party games. And so on and so on...

Nailed it. And this is what keeps me from going all out and really investing in a PC, as I know PS4 is right around the corner.

you've not played AC before? the only thing interesting in it is the story, everything else is just too damn easy and repetitive to be enjoyable.

and the story is crap anyways.

I'm actually not wrong. Since I knew Halo first, this series reminds me of Halo. That's how our human minds work. :P I didn't mention anything about Halo being first or Tribes taking anything from it. No need to get elitist.

I was actually just trying to downplay the importance of Halo for the FPS genre.  Did it advance console FPS experience?  Sure ;  Did it add anything new to the FPS for long time PC FPS users?  No .  I am not trying to be elitist but I think it is time to squash the "accomplishments" of Halo.  The only accomplishment I give Halo is that it gave Microsoft a foot in the door for the home video game console (oops I mean home media center).

No Trophy, no buy.

I used to be a PC gamer first and foremost but I like to have all my games in the same place. On PC it's a pain to reinstall all your games when you upgrade to a new harddrive, and it's a pain to patch old games and upgrade to proper video drivers.

Being a PC gamer since 1995 I am very tired of the hassle and constant crash to desktop.

On PS3 it's just plug and play and everything always works and never crashes. And no annoying boot up time, if I want to play Im inside the game within 15 seconds.

Plus you have Trophies. I love the universal experience thanks to Trophies. All my games tie into each other thanks to the Trophy system which gives extra meaning and context to play even mediocre games.
(Steam achievements do nothing for me because not all games are supported by it, plus no one gives me respect for Steam achievements).

I do want to be able to experience the PC gaming experience too though. For some games PC is superior (RTS and FPS) and for Elder Scrolls a PC is essential due to mods. So I will replace my PC from 2008 one day, with all these new GPUs coming out it's just hard to know exactly when to do it.

Many games on steam have Achievments now. I know you said you dont like them, but they are their if you want "points."

Steam Keeps all of your games in the same spot. It also lets you back up all games to a hard drive or disc which can be used to reinstall all games and updates with out re downloading.

I haven't had a game crash my pc in years. In fact I haven't had any crashes since i switched to windows 7.

A pc from 2008 should be able to play many games, and almost every console game that is on pc also supports the xbox controller. (I call my pc my 360 2.0 because its just like playing on my 360 except a little better graphics.
