If you're into shooters, and want to check out a slick and beautiful free-to-play game that just came out (art style and weapons remind me of Halo) then check out "Tribes: Ascend." It's a beautiful game. And free

This is where you are wrong...  The Tribes series came out before the Halo series and I regard the first game as way more advance than Halo.  The first Tribes game was one of the first FPS to allow 20+ people playing at the same time (back during the days most people only had a 56k while I was rocking an ISDN) with vehicles, bases, jet packs, etc...   Halo reminds me of Tribes but worse.

I'm actually not wrong. Since I knew Halo first, this series reminds me of Halo. That's how our human minds work. :P I didn't mention anything about Halo being first or Tribes taking anything from it. No need to get elitist.

I was actually just trying to downplay the importance of Halo for the FPS genre.  Did it advance console FPS experience?  Sure ;  Did it add anything new to the FPS for long time PC FPS users?  No .  I am not trying to be elitist but I think it is time to squash the "accomplishments" of Halo.  The only accomplishment I give Halo is that it gave Microsoft a foot in the door for the home video game console (oops I mean home media center).
