Forums - Gaming - Microsoft Apparently Bringing Forward Release Of Xbox 720 To 2013 Due To Wii U

This really isn`t surprising, but now it could be more clear. There could a be a few reasons why MS is doing this like feeling the new controller will be as important and successful as Wii remote; in the backstage MS might have seen that this time the 3rd pary support is serious or even that Nintendo i really doing the right things it needs to do to win the hardcore over. Or even the combination of all these things and even more aspects.

Thing is, if this is true, MS might have reached a point where they believe that Wii U will be big for casual and the core gamers or given what they know they just won`t risk having to deal with a Wii again.

Not unexpected, let's see what Sony does if this is true. I say: WiiU around xmas 2012, 720 around xmas 2013, PS4 around March 2014. I probably won't buy a next-gen console till 2015.

Microsoft need to start caring more about quality and its fanbase first and market share and the masses second.

I agree. MS should stop caring about being successful in the video game industry. How dare they wish for marketshare and wish to entertain the masses. They don't cater to me, so they are wrong and I am right...

Sony and Nintendo are by providing quality hardware and catering to their their base.  Aren't doing so well, aren't they?

lol. How is Nintendo catering to it's fanbase?

Mario, Metroid, Pokemon, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, etc...

I'm talking about this year where tbh, Nintendo has the worst lineup. :P

With the 360 I could just list all of their games too...

Oh...  You were talking about THIS year.  NooOoOow you say so.  Nintendo is still catering to their fanbase.  You questioned, I answered.  You can't deal with the answer, don't ask next time.

WTH did you think I meant? You mentioned sales and I assumed you meant this year's because this year, the 360 sales are subpar. Also, even if I was talking about the entire gen, the 360's attachment rate shows that MS indeed caters to it's base(or at least ensures games that people want are still being made for it through 3rd parties, which can't be said for Nintendo)

Besides you said "catering" which I assumed you meant currently because it is in present tense. Don't be mean and try to make it seem as if I am just trying to back trace my statements, because I stand strongly by what I said. You inferred wrong.

Your original statement was beyond stupid, because even now it seems as if you are assuming that MS actually did accelerate their hardware refresh/new gen(which even now you assume will have adverse effects on the quality of the hardware), and yet the reality of the situation is that we don't know this, and even if the XBOX3 releases in 2013, you have to remember the 360 has been out 8 years since then, so it is not so farfetched that they planned to release then before the Wiiu's announcement. In other words, it appears to me that you getting all upset because you think that MS will pull another Rrod (not that I expect you to ever buy an Xbox), but the likely answer is that MS was going to lauch their next system in 2013 before the Wiiu's announcement. Usually your criticisms of MS are understandable, but this one is just stupid.

Of course that is what I thought you were implying from your statement, so I guess the first question I should have asked would be, "Can you elaborate?"

I actually think that's a mistake. I'm still not convinced Wii U is going to see near the kind of success that the Wii saw and I think MS should have stood their ground and waited. Their current console is healthy and Kinect is still selling well.

Pushing it foreward seems like a rush and considering reports that the Nextbox is going to be powerful as hell they should've waited so costs would have been lower. Either way if true I'm dissapointed in MS.

Yup, BS. Wii U, realistically, shouldn't be scaring anyone with ports and games the teen "hardcorzzzzzzzzzzz!!" already label as kiddy and hate on. IMO, it'll get the current HD ports, and then get trounced by the nextbox and PS4. I have zero faith in Nintendo's capabilities of making this system successful from a third-party perspective, but that's me.

Plus, rushing shit could end up in another round of fun hardware defects ala RROD. And MS learned their lesson I think. So well that this is the first time I type out "RROD" for this whole year.

How Am I suppose to know what time frame you were referring to?  And you're the one who apparently assumed to being with.  And I honest do know know what context you are referring to in regards to you claiming I mentioned sales.  Besides, the Wii has been a runaway success over the Xbox 360 one reason is because they have catered to their base throughout this generation as I have mentioned.  I provided you with legit answers.  You're just providing excuses.  Go figure.

Don’t worry if they release a RROD console then they can release a new model thus sell more and “gain” more market share :P

Ha ha, disruption again... but not necessarily in a good way. What does this mean? Well, either the tech will be more immature and expensive than intended due to the accelerated release, or it will be watered down. Shame on MS and Sony they should have held their ground.*

* And anyone who does NOT think that Sony will accelerate the release of PS4 due to Nintendo and MS jumping in (haha) is delusional.

I await the revised version of Microsoft's next controller to contain a touch screen.  Actually, support multiple controllers with touch screens... complete with Angry Birds built in via a moneyhatting deal.

That would be so sweet!

MS:  "One ticket for passage through the Isthmus of Success to the Blue Ocean, please."

Boatman:  "That'll be one large moneyhat, Mr. Gates."

MS:  "Done!"

Wii was rampantly successful, you're right. However, it also failed at the same time.

I should not be forced to buy another console to play all the games I want. 3rd party AAA should be available on everyone's setup, simply because they want as much as possible as a return and if all consoles had enough of a simularity in base capabilities, that woudl have happened.

The only reason HD Twins userbase was equal and then grew larger to that of Wii wasn't because Wii stopped making simple games, but because they never gained the additional great 3rd party games.

People will by Nintendo for Nintendo and its uniqueness... they will come in massive waves for the right mass market game... aka Wii Sports, Wii Fit, NSMBWii, MKWii, etc.... however, Nintendo should strive to make sure they don't seek entertainmnet from its direct rivals as well. That means gaining those AAA 3rd party games. Again, I would never have bought a PS3 had Assassin's Creed, Batman, equal CoD, BFBC2, and others had been offered on Wii. I could have dealt with lower graphical output, so long as the game was essentially the same. However, 3rd parties didn't event attempt that as the cost it would take to make an engine to properly downscale the game wasn't worth it. Instead you got CoD like downgrades with big missing features on top of lower graphics.

WiiU hopefully will rectify that. It will be lower spec'd than the other two next gen hardware, but hopefully more like PS2 was. This way it can be a rampant success to the nth degree... not just a leader.

I wasn't talking about simple games. If you remember the NES, then you know that its games didn't stay the same over the course of its lifecycle. They started out simple with most games not even scrolling and at the end you had in comparison massive games that scrolled in all directions. Those games built on the foundation the earlier games established. This didn't happen on the Wii, but if it had happened you wouldn't have felt the need to get a PS3 for AC, Batman and others, because you would have already been playing a new Zelda, Kid Icarus, a proper Metroid and more.

I know you, man. If Nintendo offers adventurous games, then you will pick theirs and not third party ones that require you to buy additional hardware. This is where Nintendo really dropped the ball this generation. Instead of games that built on the foundation of the Wii spirit, they decided to release Gamecube era style games like Super Mario Galaxy 2 and MOM. And you know that the Gamecube and its games didn't exactly set the market on fire. What makes the problem worse is that these Gamecube-like games require longer development cycles with Zelda being the biggest culprit nowadays. So Nintendo did not only put out the wrong games, but less games in general.

Ok, I get what you're saying and do agree. I do admit that had Nintendo put out IPs that were similar to AC, Batman, etc, then yes I would of been satisfied and probably not bought a PS3. This is very true. Afterall there really only exists one company that I will always buy and that is Nintendo. The others I buy out of lack of a Nintendo game that fits that need.

Nintendo currently does not have first party IPs that fit AC and Batman's roles... however, I am glad I got to play them as well as Uncharted as they were all good games and I do hope WiiU gets these third parties along with thier fantastic first party so I simply have more choice for my definite purchase.

You can hope for that to happen, but the only real thing that the Wii U will have over the Gamecube is that development costs have risen dramatically since the sixth generation, so third parties might not withdraw support due to sheer necessity of putting their games on as many platforms as possible.

The Wii U is a big gamble on Nintendo's part, because they are willing to sacrifice the entire Wii audience for some minor gains (the Wii audience does not need a new console to realize the games they want and after all, the Wii U will use exactly the same Wii Remote Pluses which basically means that people have to buy a new console solely because Nintendo feels like it). Nintendo could win, but the odds are against them. If they lose, then they will lose big time.

How does the Wii U sacrifice the entire Wii audience?  The Wii U looks like what Nintendo said, they want to make it deeper and wider.  The Wii U controller looks like a way to do it.  A touch screen is very accessible, but also manages to do things to capture the core.  PLUS, they made themselves the only option, at this time, to get a high def home console in homes which don't have high def TVs.
