And people said no-one would be threatened by the Wii U...

Well head starts can be deadly. Sony learned never to be on the wrong side of a head start this gen. it ends up costing you all your market share from the previous gen

Actually, Sega beat Sony to market 2 times in a row, with the Saturn and the Dreamcast.  Didn't really help Sega.

@ OP

I highly doubt MS or Sony will be rushing themselves to launch their next system because of the WiiU.  I think most already expected MS and Sony to show off their new consoles in 2012 and launch in 2013.  Now if MS reveals their console at E3 of next year and launches a few months later, then yes, I think it would save to assume they rushed out their console ahead of time.  Though, MS really couldn't afford another RROD fiasco.  They would be out of the console market within a year or 2.  Point is, 1 year head start for the WiiU isn't going to hurt MS or Sony much.  Though, a 2 year head start, unless the console in question greatly outpowered the other 2 and was very affordable, would be pushing it.

But we both know Sega doesnt have the corporate size or spending power like MS. I doubt Sega could do a 500 million advertising budget like MS did last fall :P

When its MS getting the head start, they seem to know how to make it count.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

bring foward the release date to 2013!!?? wtf were they really aiming at the ten year plan for real

sony is still going with the 10 year plan, they are up to 11 for the PS2 with support strong in developing markets for that device, it wont be long before they replace the PS2 with the PS3 in those markets with a influx of cheap and large collection of games. Tho the PS2 populatity in those regions could of been because of the mods and ability to priate the machine.

But anyways i am banking on MS releasing a service, but all points to 2015 after the windows 8 life cycle, with the service wil come a DD only console and cloud gaming. But Mircosoft could release the Kinectbox which is a updated 360 with built in Kinect, maybe better kinect as well being a Kinect 2.

Of Course That's Just My Opinion, I Could Be Wrong

You mean this wasn't going to happen anyway?

God, why do people STILL keep suggesting a NextBox with "built in Kinect"?? That is still the most retarded and pointless idea ever and has always been! Kinect is a camera peripheral that needs to be placed at a specific height and location relative to your playing space. Unless the whole console could somehow fit in the space that takes up Kinect, this would be impossible for most people to accomodate. So please, stop suggesting something so silly as a built in Kinect/Move for next generation consoles. They will always be connected peripherals via USB or some interface and not built in (until the day that consoles are as small as the cameras themselves).

I predict RROD 2: The Reckoning: Electric Boogaloo.

once Wii U fails to take off MS will realize their mistake...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Not a big surprise these sources are saying this. Sales numbers this year for all consoles is evident that they are only going down this gen and the peak has been past.

Wow, are people really trying to say this is a rushed release and to be careful of RRoD problems again? This is still 2 years out... by next E3, the hardware will be nearly final and many games will have running builds on it. By the following E3, the hardware will be final and have even more games with nearly complete builds. Fall 2013 there will be plenty of games out at release and the new Xbox will have had plenty of time for testing of the hardware.

I still don't think MS ever thought to wait as long as 2014 to begin with. That's 9 years before releasing a new console. The hardware simply ages much to fast for that. Heck even next year would mark 7 years which is longer than any hardware generation ever has gone to date. 2013 is the longest MS should wait and is the perfect time frame for release, 8 years after the launch, compared to the Wii's successor coming 6 years after launch.

If MS got the new Xbox out by holiday 2012, THEN I would say it was rushed out and to be cautious of hardware issues, much like the 360 launched the same holiday year that it was revealed in 2005.

I believe that 2013 was planned after all.

I'm going to play devils advocate and reckon that it was Nintendo who rushed the Wii U to beat Microsoft and Sony. That Wii U E3 unveil pretty much proves this imo.

Microsoft need to start caring more about quality and its fanbase first and market share and the masses second.
