Ok, I get what you're saying and do agree. I do admit that had Nintendo put out IPs that were similar to AC, Batman, etc, then yes I would of been satisfied and probably not bought a PS3. This is very true. Afterall there really only exists one company that I will always buy and that is Nintendo. The others I buy out of lack of a Nintendo game that fits that need.

Nintendo currently does not have first party IPs that fit AC and Batman's roles... however, I am glad I got to play them as well as Uncharted as they were all good games and I do hope WiiU gets these third parties along with thier fantastic first party so I simply have more choice for my definite purchase.

You can hope for that to happen, but the only real thing that the Wii U will have over the Gamecube is that development costs have risen dramatically since the sixth generation, so third parties might not withdraw support due to sheer necessity of putting their games on as many platforms as possible.

The Wii U is a big gamble on Nintendo's part, because they are willing to sacrifice the entire Wii audience for some minor gains (the Wii audience does not need a new console to realize the games they want and after all, the Wii U will use exactly the same Wii Remote Pluses which basically means that people have to buy a new console solely because Nintendo feels like it). Nintendo could win, but the odds are against them. If they lose, then they will lose big time.

That's the part where our philosophy is complete at odds with each other. I don't think they are sacrificing the core Wii audience. It will have those Wii Sports/Fit/MK/NSMB/etc. It will have the best that Nintendo's inovative spirit can muster. However, it will also have the genres they choose to ignore allowing themselvs access to many who have chosen those games over Nitnendo's IPs. Now they will have the best of both worlds.

I think WiiU is more like SNES than GC and a good move up the river.

How does the Wii U sacrifice the entire Wii audience?  The Wii U looks like what Nintendo said, they want to make it deeper and wider.  The Wii U controller looks like a way to do it.  A touch screen is very accessible, but also manages to do things to capture the core.  PLUS, they made themselves the only option, at this time, to get a high def home console in homes which don't have high def TVs.

A touchscreen works on a handheld device. When it comes to home consoles, a touchscreen gets obliterated by the Wiimote. So which benefits does the Wii U have over the Wii?

  • More processing power: Probably irrelevant for most people.
  • Ports of 360 and PS3 games: Those certainly weren't a reason why people bought a Wii, because those games weren't there. It's not like nobody would want to play these games, but people won't buy a new console for them. And if they do, then chances are that they already own a 360 or PS3 which will continue to get the same third party games as the Wii U.
  • A touchscreen controller: A downgrade, not an upgrade.
So at the end of the day it comes down to a handful of new games being possible with the touchscreen controller, but that could have probably been achieved with the controller being a Wii peripheral. Sure, it would have meant only four players instead of five, but other than that? Nintendo is basically trying to force people to buy a new expensive brick in order to play games that they could have made for the original Wii.

Being backwards compatible with the Wii, but adding PS3 and 360 content doesn't lose anyone or anything, it adds things.  The touchscreen controller adds not only the ability to play without the TV, but also is another feature being added to Nintendo's set up.  The issue Nintendo faces is now is that they had to do a graphic update.  They still keep the older controls but do something different.  Do you think merely dragging over the Wii controllers to high def without the controller would be sufficient?

The thing is that, what the new controller offers is NOT what you can do with the Wii at all.  That is a point of it.  For example, the Wii U is the system of choice if you want to do boardgame stuff.  The touch screen IS accessible and opens up a lot more that wasn't available before.  Do note they are keeping the old Wii controls around.

Watch this and tell me what they lost...

Hope this doesn't cause the hardware problems we saw with the 360. Take your time ms, take your time.

I hardly doubt it will happen again the successor to the 360 will launch with 28nm or 22nm chipsets and will not be a major leap forward over the 360 so I doubt we will see any major hardware problems like the RROD which was mainly caused by the hardware overheating.

I hope Microsoft doesn't try to rush the next system. If they do, it could mean a half baked OS, and hardware at launch, and potentially a new breed of RROD-like issues. They should wait to see how people will react to the Wii U first. Prematurely launching would be bad for them. Sony won't admit it tot he public, but if Microsoft AND Nintendo launch before them, they'll have to jump in as well, so I hope they are planning the PS4.

The System will launch with 28nm or 22nm chipsets and will not be a major leap forward over the 360 so another RROD fiasco is almost impossible.  The system should be more reliable then the Wii U which launches with 45nm based hardware.
