Forums - Sony Discussion - Reviewers "trolled" by Yamauchi's damage test!

Unlocking something as fundamental as damage in a "sim" is stupid and the game deserves to lose points for that.  It's the same as unlocking characters in a fighter to play online - a waste of everyone's time.

First impressions matter a lot.  Nobody should be expected to grind through subpar gameplay to unlock something that should have been a menu option, especially in a "sim".  If a game doesn't impress in the first 5 minutes, it deserves to go in the trash cause reviewers and player's aren't going to waste their time, no matter what the fanboys or devs promise.  Luckily most gaming companies understand this.

But thank god the GT fan like the game enough and think the gameplay is really good. And it's more a Learning Game than an OMG it kill zombies and have Multiplayer.... So i can buy the game and just go online (because the single player is just 6 hour long anyway) ... if a game needs me to play more than 6h let call it a crap right?

My GT4 weren't finished because my PS2 dyied before it (2 years playing... some 500h of effort in GT for this).

But with GT5 i'll get myself together and have all 1000 cars and bet every challenge.

IGN made it all the way through Forza 3 campaign last year, so why not give the same amount of time for GT5?

Reviewers are lazy. Simple.

That's the biggest piece of crap I've ever heard. What, are you going to have to spend an hour playing GT5 before you unlock steering?

You can steer from the begining, and don't have to grind... just win... isn't this what a race is about?

Three pages of this? Fuck that.

I read the OP and the first page. Anyways, I just expect reviewers to beat the game and make a judgment based off the campaign. If they don't see the credits roll for every game before forming an opinion, it's an incomplete review.

You do the reviewer way... Read the OP than you know all about it?

Way to go

Grinding?!? The game play just fine without damage. It gives you a chance to earn some money and practice a bit before being penalise. I understand that you would prefer an option, but seriously, "the biggest piece of crap"...

True, that was an overreaction. I just think that damage sounds like a basic part of the game. I don't know, I usually don't play racers.

If you don't play how do you know if it's important?

The important part is to not get your car damaged as you would do in Real Life. And all this discussion is useless, it's like saying.... "well a driver shouldn't hit a wall but we want damage so we can have a car disfigurated".

My gosh your avatar looks painful. And yes, I do know all about it. Go read EGM.

Yikes, this thread sure has grown!

It was revealed in a thread on GAF a short while after the review went up, that the reviewers favorite genre is actually FPS, and he is a big Xbox fan.

How do we know this?

His likes on Facebook.

Xbox 360
Xbox
Halo
Call of Duty
Halo 3
Halo Reach
Etc.

IGN really did get the wrong guy to review the game.

For the 2nd time this week (and the second time in my life) I feel the need to defend IGN.

Reviewers CANNOT play games in their entirety. Well, some games they can - those that last about 6 hours. The majority of reviews are done to make money, which we cannot blame them for - everyone needs to eat. How long would you guess it would take to full experience every facet of GT5? It's just impractical to expect a reviewer to sink that much time into a game, especially when they need to get the review out as soon as they can, in order for it to actually be useful to anyone.

When reading reviews (and I do hope you read reviews in their entirity) you must always be aware that the reviewer did not play the game as much as you will over your  life.

I like Gamespots policy. If a game is huge we will at least try to finish the main sections of the game including story.

You can't rate COD without finishing story and progressing through the multiplayer at least to a significant level and as such I think it is quite imerative that IGN reviewers should have leveled up and completed the game significantly before rating a billion dollar franchise- 8.5/ dissapointment of 10'.

The only dissapointment is IGN, as they are hanging on shreds of credibility,,,, (if that)

I respect Gamespot and will respecet what ever score they give when they come to a conclusion, simply due to the fact that they have been in the review process of the game for quite some time now. (EVidence of which is on GS site)
