Forums - Gaming - Possible 3DS killer up Sony's sleve??

i think all the new psp needs, is a single wide screen touch 3d screen, and a low price. to compete

no one is ever going to challenge the nintendo gameboy brand, but sony could make a good alternative.

right now with psp its far to costly in comparison to DS, plus DS games are perfect for handhelds whilst psp ones arnt.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

It needs all that, plus:

3G connectivity

Dual analogs

1080p screen

Capacitive touch screen

Motion sensors

8 cameras

Gigantic cup holders

Two bubble domes

Sounds like the homer. The everyman's car.

The thing is sony are very VERY well educated on 3D. so if they wanted to put in 3D into the new psp along with amazing graphics ect and everything else its rumoured to have it couls easily beat the 3DS. The wii beat the ps3 because it was differant where as if sony made a handheld that had everything the 3DS has and more then it would sell better (if its price is farly well thought out). oh and for all those nintendo fans that are going to say nintendo could smash sony with there "amazing" first party games, do you realy want me to start talking about the gamecube getting one of the biggest but kickings in video game history despite its "amazing" first party games.

I noticed the OP only listed technicals which is a very bad sign and is indicative of why the PS3 was hyped to high Hell and back, but has sold only half the hardware as the Wii Let me give you a big clue:

Games, games, games, games, games

The average video game consumer gives a rats ass about specs. People buy systems for the games.

If Sony did release a handheld as you mentioned in your original post, they would price themselves out of the handheld market. I estimate at least $350-400 for the PSP-3D alone. People will not buy that when a substitute such as the Nintendo 3DS will be around the $200 price range with all the game franchises they played and loved when they were little kids back in the 1980s and 1990s.

A Sony PSP-3D as you mentioned would make the DreamCast look like a winner in sales.

Well imagine the Gamecube without Nintendo's first party games. Thats the PSP2.

Nintendo have the games that were built for and have been long associated with its handhelds, Sony have PS2 ports on theirs.

How could Nintendo have released information too early?

Videogame consoles and handhelds take years to develop, and developers need to know what hardware you’re releasing a year or more before a system launches in order to have games available for launch. Outside of very minor changes, you can’t really make a change to the core-hardware of a gaming system without delaying its release. If Sony produced a system based on Nintendo’s announcements the earliest I could see them releasing this system would be sometime in 2012. A year or two head-start for the 3DS will make a much bigger impact on that generation than an improvement in hardware will

Ahh weezy.

This may be because I've been out of the loop for a week or so, but I would like to see a source on this for starters.

Secondly

*travels back in time*

A PSP with "just below" PS2  graphics.

2D?

Bigger Screen?

Quality speakers?

More powerful graphic card ?

Better online connectivity

=

Is this a DS killer?

You will never understand why certain consoles sell and others don't, I'm sorry to say

Spot on, no matter what the PSP does, it has to be completley innovotive, fresh and original to ever stand a chance of being top dog, improving on current models just doesn't cut it.

Coming from Sony...I doubt it.

Trolling a bit?

It has to innovative thats certain, but Im not sure 3D is the future at the moment, at least not in a portable form. I say lets wait and see. I doubt that Sony will release anything this TGS, so they still have a year to prepare

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

All of that would be useless, if they don't have the games that appeal to MILLIONS of people.

Get that, AND the games... And maybe.

If Sony only makes a more Powerful PSP2, or tries to just piggy back off of Nintendo's ideas (again) The handheld will be an utter failure.

Sony's so threatened by the 3DS, that Yoshida guy had to ask Nintendo to lay off the 3D glasses bashing.

Nintendo's had handheld dominance for over 20yrs. That's not changing anytime soon.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.
