Forums - Nintendo - Have we all made a big deal about nothing??($80 games)

Look, $80 ain't cheap, especially at a time when the dollar is trash. Haven't we been here before though?

No, I'm not talking about inflation silliness. I'm talking about paying even more than $80 for our games without batting an eye.

How many bought the DLC for BOTW? You paid $60 for the base game and another $20 for the expansion. That's $80 for Zelda.

All 3 Xenoblades had $30 expansion passes on top of the $60 base game. Granted, you got a whole extra game but still, you paid $90 for Xenoblade 3 times.

Who bought MK8D and didn't get the booster pass? $85 for Mario Kart

Splatoon, Smash, Pokemon S/V, Fire emblem 3 Houses/Engage. Getting the full gaming experience for these titles ranged from $80 to $95.

It's even worse when you go outside of Nintendo with games like Street Fighter and GTA.

Maybe Nintendo is greedy, or maybe the consumer taught them these price points are okay. Maybe the price point isn't the issue but rather it's feeling you're not getting value for dollar. What's the difference in Nintendo charging $60 for FEFW and having a $25 expansion and just charging $80 for the game?

.....$5?

But the point is if the game is already 80 at launch and the upcoming DLC is 30, then it's 110...

vs 60 for the base game + 20 for the DLC

It's a 37,5% increase, for a hobby that was already extremely expensive a couple years ago

Saying a $60 base game having $20 DLC makes it the same as an $80 base game is just silly.

Is Pokopia now a $105 game because of the expansion pass? No.

"What's the difference in Nintendo charging $60 for FEFW and having a $25 expansion and just charging $80 for the game?"

Presumably the $60 full game + $25 expansion would have more content than the $80 game. You're also weirdly assuming $80 games won't have paid DLC.

i said it in another thread and ill say it now. i love paying $80 for games soooooo much. the fact that its $80 in itself justifies the purpose. makes me feel full.

You know you can buy multiple copies of a game. There's no reason to cap yourself at $80.

well in fact i do. when metroid dread came out i bought the special edition and i bought the standard edition so i can put a copy with all my other standard games. same with totk. and for breath of the wild i bought all 3 editions. believe me, im way ahead of this. nintendo gets every single penny they charge from me. if everyone were like me, every single game would sell 8 billion copies and theyd be the most powerful company on planet earth.

Because if Mario Kart World has paid DLC (all but guaranteed) it will make the whole base+DLC package $100-$120.
Also, I think at least one more Switch 2 game published by Nintendo will be $80 digitally and I would not outrule $90 physically.
GTA VI might be $80 at least, and I have a feeling a lot of PS6 and Helix games will be $80.
