Have you ever passed on a system or systems from your preferred console manufacturer, and if so, which one(s) and why did you skip them?

They all suck in their own way. PlayStation used to be my preferred console, but Sony has been burning any goodwill they used to have at an increasing rate. I almost skipped PS5 because it has so few interesting games for an absolutely awful price, but at the same time, I guess there's enough interesting games, so I finally caved in and got one anyway. Even then, my original intention was to play the interesting games, sell the console at a higher price than I got it for before PS6 came out, and maybe get a PS6 instead. That plan most likely got canned the moment I saw a Ghost of Yotei edition of the console for the same price as a regular edition, because I probably can't stand bear selling a special edition console when it has a theme I actually like (I mean, the console's not necessarily the prettiest, but I love the game).

Kind of off-topic, but once I get through enough of my backlog, I might go Nintendo instead. The sucky part about Nintendo is game prices though, so better consider carefully what I really want.

No.
I once considered going for the 360 instead of the PS3 but I still went for the PS3.

I've only ever skipped their handhelds, which I got much later.

I don't know if you mean skipped as in skipping it in the generation it released then playing on it or not play on it at all.
I had a PS2, PS3 and PSP, but I skipped on the PS Vita until 2020 when I grabbed one for a good price and mainly used it to play PS1 and PSP games.
While my brothers and I shared a PS4 (Christmas gift) I rarely touched it, so I guess maybe this could be considered skipping it? I grabbed a PS5 and that's how I'm experiencing PS4 games for the first time.
The reason I skipped the Vita was I just didn't really get into playing my PSP, so I had no interest in having a Vita until way later.
The reason I skipped on PS4 was I kept playing my PS2 and PS3 so I was satisfied. Also, this is when I got more into Nintendo so I was occupied playing on my DS, Wii, Wii U, and in 2015 finally got a 3DS. All these systems and plenty of games for me to play was enough.

It can be either I guess.

I didn't have an NES or Gamecube during their respective generations, but I did pick them up later.

I skipped Virtual Boy. I actually wasn’t even aware of it as a kid. And I never owned a Game Boy during the 90s; I caught up on its library later, via GBA. I was just more invested in home console gaming at the time. I’ve since picked up a couple Game Boy Color systems.

But everything else I played during its specific era: NES, SNES, N64, GBA, GCN, DS, Wii, 3DS, WiiU, Switch, and Switch 2.

Since the 90's, I've owned multiple systems, so I never experienced this phenomenon

I skipped the PS Vita because, as a PSP owner, I wasn't convinced the support was going to last plus the first few games didn't catch my attention.

I also skipped the PS4 but not because I didn't want it, I actually really did lol, it's just that by the time got the means and stability to purchase one, the PS5 was the better choice.

No, i have not.

Had PS2, PS3, PS4. Quite likely skipping PS5 due to the gen playing out backwards and opposite of what you'd expect. We'll see about PS6.
