Between 45-60 movies a year. So most of the time once a week.

I feel like something happened around the last time that this thread was updated, but I just can't put my finger on why that is. Maybe I'm just being forgetful because of the Corona I'm drinking. In any event, with theaters mostly operating at normal for the past two years in North America, I figured I would revisit this thread. The below are my stats for theater visits over the years. Prior to subscription plans coming out (such as MoviePass and then AMC A-List), I probably went to about one movie a month on average, if that. Now that I have a subscription, I go about once a week.

2017: There is no good data for this time, but this is the year when MoviePass changed it's price to $10 a month and I know I took advantage of that a LOT.
2018: 13 theater visits / movies verified (It's possible I could have seen more outside of AMC.)
2019: 36 theater visits / movies verified (First year of AMC A-List Membership. It's possible I saw more movies outside AMC prior to membership.)
2020: 14 theater visits / movies (reduced for obvious reasons)
2021: 35 theater visits / 34 movies (Dune twice)
2022: 48 theater visits / 46 movies (Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water twice. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish also twice, but the second viewing was in 2023.)

Usually one or two a month, especially if including re-watches. Since coronavirus it’s been much more rare, I’ve only hit a few like Avatar 2 and a few horror flicks. I think I’m going to step it up in 2023.

None. Cinemas have gotten too expensive around here. When I was a kid I could go and see a movie for 10 DM, including snacks and a drink. That equals roughly 5 €. Nowadays the ticket alone is 16 € around here, more if it's in 3D or overtime or some bullshit. The snacks have also skyrocketed in price. Even with inflation in mind it has gotten just plain crazy.

I'm also not alone anymore and when I take my wife and son to the cinema, I will easily spend 100+ € for one single evening. That's just stupid. And it all started when the big franchise cinemas started to pop up everywhere. You can barely find smaller cinemas anymore. Just these gigantic cinema temples with said ridicoulous prices.

I used to be a big fan of cinemas, but it's just not worth it anymore. I go there ever now and then when I visit my hometown where there is still a small cinema. But they're only showing small or very old movies. Which is fine by me. At leas the tickets and snacks are still reasonable priced and I like old movies anyway.

The last time I went to a movie theater was for Captain Marvel and I believe that was from 2019.

The last movie I watched in the cinema was Interstellar. My kids do go occasionally but the grandparents like to take them. And that's fine since alone time with the wife >>> sitting through Minions 6 or whatever.

I used to go to the cinema a lot, but the home experience has been better since I got a projector and now tvs are big enough to not even need a projector anymore. I don't miss the smells, sticky floors, people talking, bright smart phone screens in front, not being able to pause, not being able to set the sound volume, having to drive there and back, and then the pandemic happened.

No small cinema here showing old movies. I never really liked the digital movie 'experience', just not the same as the good old 35mm projection. The last movie I saw was Interstellar, I drove extra far to see the 70mm version. A nice throwback to old times, but locally it has been all digital since 2008. And the last couple movies I saw there gave me a headache so no more.

Why pay over twice the price of the blu-ray to watch it together in an inconvenient setting that gives us both a headache... Nah, together on the couch is much preferred.

It depends on what movies release. 2019 was the year where I went most often with 17 movies. In 2020 then only 10 movies.

I saw 50 movies in theaters last year.
