Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft Pins Comeback on Exclusives

Hard to believe him. Saw what happened with Xbox 360 and now Xbox One exclusives. Many of them end up in PC. So its hard to believe him. Lets see what happens in future.

Not gonna work, takes more then that.

Inferior 3rd party games will haunt their ass all through this gen. PS4 power advantage will always be there.

Also i dont see them capable of brawling it out with wws in the 1st party exclusives ring.

But but.. The cloud... And Direct X 12... And freeing up resources by disconnecting the Kinect...

:P

Nothing wrong with more exclusives. Bring on the games Phil.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

I always hate when I hear the words "Microsoft/Xbox and Exclusives" cause I always feel like there should be an * next to the word Exclusives cause, in all honesty, a ton of games that were supposedly "xbox exclusive" got ported to the PC and heck, even games that are coming up that are "exclusive" will probably get ported as well (like Tomb Raider)... So its like, I agree that xbox needs exclusives but what xbox needs are permanent exclusives and not timed exclusives!

If Microsoft doesn't care that the game comes to PC than no one else should either. I think it is that simple. Gears, Halo, and Fable have all shown up on PC at some point in time. So if we go by those standards Microsoft has ZERO exclusives. They don't care and pick and choose what they put on PC. If they wanted to they could just pay for RYSE and DR3 to never show up on the PC.

Way to much time is spent on trying to decide what shoud and shouldn't count as exclsuive.

Good strategy, copy Nintendo.
We all see how it's working for them.

I am very scared that this will just turn into "buying 3rd party exclusives" and "paying 3rd party to avoid PS4".

Thats what is happening. Quantum Break, Tomb Raider, Scalebound, Killer Instinct (Developed by two third party developers), Ryse, Dead Rising, Titanfall. The hype is all third party. MS needs to prove the naysayers wrong (including me) and truthfully I want them to.

1. Quantum Break is an IP owned by Microsoft. So they are not keeping anything from Sony with Money

2. Killer Instinct is owned by Microsoft.

3. Dead Rising 3 was funded by Microsoft

4. Titanfall wouldn't have been finished if Microsoft didn't fund the rest of it.

Not sure about RYSE or Scalebound, but I am sure Scalebound, much like a lot of Platnum games, are being funded by the console maker. So honestly Tomb Raider and I guess RYSE is the only thing backing up your thinking. However based on your post history none of this is really going to get through to you.

Yea but, during the 360 days, the xbox had a lot of exclusives that never really made it to PC and something like this wasn't really the issue... And during those days, when Microsoft said that something would be xbox exclusive, most of the time, it was...? Now its like, when they say Xbox exclusive, what they really seem to mean is that its either timed exclusive or its coming to PC eventually

You're proving my point without even noticing it. Nothing there is an indicator of what MS is capable of outside of paying for things. We already know they can do that. They can own as many IPs as they want. Its hollow if they aren't an indicator of the creativity of MS. There is no unified style, nothing. Zero identity whatsoever. You're talking to an artistic entity so that type of integrity is a big thing in my argument.

Also EA fully funded Titanfall. Titanfall was going to be on both the PS4 and Xbox One until Sony turned the game down. You're a bit late there. Dead Rising was funded by MS but still isnt exclusive. Much like Ninja Gaiden 2 the general contract is allows them to make the game on other platforms outside of their direct competition. Same goes for Ryse.

It will catch up with them as the gen progresses and the sea of applicable third party dries as it did last gen leaving MS to lack exclusives compared to former years where they could just moneyhat or get B team prequels like Gears Judgement because the A team at Epic is finally trying to make their own game without MS beggining them to make games for them. As good as they are doing now its no different from how last gen started. False perception is one thing, but the reality becomes apparent as time goes on as last gen proved with MS.

Halo: MCC is a potential game changer in the US and UK at least. Next 2 months will be very interesting

Do you think this is just PR marketing for Microsoft? Or do you think they are serious about going after exclusives and trying to ‘win this generation’?

I think they are serious about winning the gen and getting exclusives.  The majority of those exclusives can and should be grown inhouse.  As a dubious analyst once pointed out, most third party studios and publishers will look at Destiny/Watch_Dogs and look at Titanfall.  They will see the incredible disparity in sales results and they will be more inclined to go multiplat.  And since it is unlikely in the short-term that Sony will be able to pay for lost Xbox One sales, don't expect them to suddenly have an onslaught of third-party exclusives either.  Microsoft and Sony will both be cultivating their first-party studios and exclusives  with certain intensity.
