What exactly does this mean for the BioShock series? Because it was one of the VERY few FPS games/series I highly enjoyed.

Well, I don't know, but I assume Take 2 (or 2K) has the rights to the franchise and the assets. So they could make a sequel theoretically.... But if they had intended such a move, they would have kept Irrational. Just let Levine found his smaller venture and replace the people he takes with him inside of Irrational. As most people ouöld have worked on the franchise before, they would have been the best experts on the experience. But Take2 let's Irrational die or shrink - so they probably don't plan on a sequel in the near future. That are all assumptions though, use a proper amount of salt with my opinion.

So they had a budget way too high for a game of this size? This is sad, because gamers will not accept games with smaller worlds, less visual spectacle and so on. So it seems even more companies will get into trouble in the future ...

Only way to survive with such budgets for good games is sells COD-like numbers or ... make bad games instead.

You don't have to make bad games per se. Notch is rubbing it in the faces of the gaming industry. The fact that Minecraft has lasted this long in the charts in comparison to other big budget titles is just an embarrasment.

I guess the next big hit will probably be Destiny.

Infinite sold between 3 and 4 million copies. How can this be unprofitable? Did they get SquareEnix execs to make the budget-planning?

What other conclusion is there? They only broke even on Tomb Raider just recently at 4-5m copies.

Ouch. If that is true and games like Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider have problems to break even, the game industry is in deep shit. Developers can't just start to make games half that big and with lower res textures and lesser polygon resolution and try to sell them full price. Customers would be avoiding it. So studios with big AAA projects may have a difficult time ahead.

This industry is so doomed it's scary.

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

Sorry to see another developer go under, but that last Bioshock game was irrationally overrated anyways. Plus he decided not to make a WiiU version of the game, so serve them right. Another developer bites he dust from chasing those millions from the hardcore gaming audience.

I love My Wii U, and the potential it brings to gaming.

this pretty much is the result of the success of the Ouya now everyone want to develop for it and android

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

It's true.  The industry is just not sustainable at the rate it's going for the "AAA" game model.  Things like GTA and COD obviously have nothing to worry about, but for every GTA there are a dozen other games that just aren't making enough money back to warrant what they cost to make.

Well I bought Bioshock Infinite on ps3 new and pc on steam so gave them some money but I do buy secondhand games on ps3 and 360. Personally I feel 3 million is a good figure to sell. Banking on getting 5 million sales seems highly risky. I do like varied game experiences that take the player into new areas. Thats why games like call of duty and battlefield can be depressing as they seem to important to the industry nowadays as do football franchises.

I hope developers keep coming up with fresh gaming experiences. I hope its not down to low cost indie developers to come up with fresh gaming ideas. I like ambitious technically impressive games like Bioshock Infinite that also take a few risks and don't just update what came before.
