Forums - Gaming Discussion - How come devs aren't gimping the PS4 multiplats to meet parity with Xbone?

Well there is no reason to gimp a specific platform version of a game, so why would they? The developers always strive to make the best possible version of a game according to that specific platform. The rumours of gimping does does give some extra views on the gaming sites though, I guess that is why they do it.

This is regarding arcade/indie/etc content, and when they say parity, they say content, as in they wont publish titles that have exclusive content on psn.

parity on content is not parity on resolution of graphical capability.

Clearly it was nobodys job to educate you either, your linked article is in reference to the xbox 360 and two years old, everything else since then has simply been a rumor.

Perhaps rethink your actions next time before you churn out outdated articles with no relation to a topic, then flippantly suggest "googling" when you are quite rightly called out about it.


YOU brought it up and claimed there was never a parity rule, so don't try talk about no relation to topic.  I proved you wrong with sample evidence, if you google back further you'll find more.  Don't get pissy because I called out your BS claim.

Yes, in realtion to the topic, which is about PS4 and Xbox One, specifically the rumor that microsoft were FORCING PARITY ON PS4 GAMES.
Or are we to drag up unrelated consoles and games for every single topic now? My "claim" was in direct relation to the topic, everything youve shown is not related to the xbox one or PS4.

Don't throw a fit because you jumped the gun.

Thats XBL not retail games.  There was never a agreement for parity for retail games.  This is the problem with people, you need to understand context.  Also when parity for XBL games are concerned its content and features not graphical parity.  PSN also has a policy where if a game comes second to their platform, it must contain extra content.

 

Edit:  I see someone brought this issue up already. Anyway, both console companies have such rules concerning their own private network which is PSN and XBL.  I will say it again, reading comprehension and context goes a long way when making an argument.

There was never a rumour, only speculation.  You used a past context, since it is totally stupid to use that on consoles not even released yet, added that the forced parity speculation was solely because of current gen doing it, you clearly meant current gen.

Last i checked past contex is used for things that OCCURED PREVIOUSLY, which the rumor (a rumor, what happens when speculation without facts spread, look, youre learning!) which cropped up months ago was related to. why in the hell would i come in to a topic about ps4 and xbox one and make a statement about the ps3 and 360?, you make absolutely NO sense.

Just because youre wrong and are now clearly aware of it, dont try and bend reality to snake out of it, my comment was directly related to the topic, you jumped the gun, end of story.

Well with CoD if the frame rate problems for PS4 version are true then I think the trade off to get 1080p wasn't worth it.

I do think in some ways PS4 versions are being made to parity with XOne. Specifically with the assets, notably textures, of the games.

We can see that with notably BF4 which has mainly 720p fit textures on both versions. The extra resolution of PS4 is not followed by increase of textures nor shaders resolution. Well in some cases there is not even big difference of textures resolution between PS3 and PS4 version.

Seems it is the same for COD, textures aren't very high res on PS4, probably 720p targeted textures (current gen & XOne target?).



I don't think anything was ever intentionally gimped. I think at first the PS3 had a smaller install base and so less resources were committed to the development of games on that system. Also the architecture was a bit odd. Same thing is happening with the Wii U now. If it had an install base of 80 million core gamers it would be guaranteed to get the best multiplats.

I think now the power in the ps4 is easier to access and it may in fact be more powerful overall, giving it the advantage over the One.

Personally, I think any developer who has made it to the point of developing AAA titles is talented and hard-working, but they can only work with the resources they're given.



because they do what they can and what makes sense financially? they did also not release the same versions this gen. 360 got most of the time the "better" version simply because ps3 seems to be a hard system to develop for and it didn't make sense for developers to put more time and effort in a better version because they knew it is enough to release the games like they did.

it was probably only a figment of many people that developers didn't want to release a better version on ps3 even if they could. it was more the question if it would really make sense to invest a million or two more just to have some better textures...

and now we have an xbox one with which many developers had big problems with the last months and a ps4 which is stronger and didn't make so many problems. that is the simple reason why the version on ps4 have a higher resolution or whatever they are better in. not because "this time they don't gimp the other version just to get parity"
