Forums - Sales Discussion - Disappointing 3DS XL sales in Europe

I'm the only one who thinks that the sales in Europe are disappointing compared to the Japanese sales?

I don't talk about absolute numbers, I know the 3DS was stronger in Japan to begin with. But the gains in the regions - in Japan it gained 453%, in Europe only 155%. So from a weaker base it growed by far less than in Japan. That is - not good.

What do you think? Are you agreeing or disagreeing? Have onyone a good explanation for this difference in the East and the West?

Keep in mind that the 3DS XL in Japan launched with NSMB2 and Onitore unlike in Europe.

I say we wait until NSMB2 comes out in Europe then we will see if the numbers are disappointing or not.

Edit: Apparently, the XL numbers in Europe only counted for 1 day. So first, we should see how next week's numbers are.

no its not disappointing!!!!

3DS XXL 2X speed in europe

No one is doing better in europe ,so wait and see next week whith NSMB2

Those numbers are only for one day. Amazon had a sexy promotion this week and the XL shot up in their charts, so I think a full week will display better numbers or the device will at least hold steady at 70k for a few weeks. I don't think 70k is a bad number for this time of the year and the fact that europe is not handheld crazy like Japan is.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

How much did 3DS XL sell in EU? Handhelds aren't that popular in West (for some reason?) so an increase of 155% is pretty good! But then again, the original 3DS didn't sell all that well before either... But like every one already said: let's wait for NSMB2 and a Pokemon game!! I think the 3DS series might sell about 2/3 or ½ the numbers of the DS-series in the West.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I haven't seen any advertisements for it, so I'm guessing lack of promotion could be a reason for the disappointing sales.

Like i said in another thread launching it without Mario in Europe was a mistake. Also Europeans aren't used to Saturday launches

We all know right now 3DS is much more Hot in Japan but give it time because Soon EU and US numbers will be much higher than Japanese numbers. Maybe this holiday already but not sure.

Do you reckon?  I don't think handhelds over here are ever going to pass Japan's numbers again, or at least not for a long time.  Handhelds are their main console over there, whereas here they're definitely on a come-down and facing some tough competition.

Mario will give 3DS a boost, and it'll be consistently higher in Europe once it starts getting some more proper titles, but I don't think they're ever gonna reach Japanese numbers again.

There is also no advertising whatsoever for the XL in germany. The gamestop I visited also had only a normal 3DS as showcase and sold the XL from under the counter. Nothing indicated there was a new model available until I asked the employee about it. The 3DS XL is more invisible than the Vita right now and that's pretty hard to accomplish.

Edit: I think they will start to advertise the device together with NSMB2 in the coming weeks, at least I hope so.
