I had to dust of this picture... but here it is:

Talking about prices: Isn't it HUGE that MS makes a profit with a 179€ price-tag while the Sony loses money with a 400€ price-tag? MS really showed Sony how to run a business this gen.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

No one is going to make a thread named "How Nintendo defeated Sony and Microsoft"? That thread will have much more sense than the two already made. We are almost sure Nintendo is going to be in 1st position when all is done, but there is still a very small possibility that Sony takes the second place.

I believe hard core videogame fans don't want to think about it, so that is why we don't get such a topic started.  Anyhow, if I were to come up with a list of why, it would be:

1. Nintendo having the least expensive console on the market at launch.  And they spec'd it out just enough to be able to do what it needed to, getting rid of everything from lack of full high def to other things.

2. Nintendo coming up with a new interface that would enable new game experiences to appear.  This interface mapped to exactly what had been showing themselves to be hot games: Guitar Heroes and Dance Dance Revolution.  Nintendo decided to do something which would end up allowing such controller games to be done relatively easy.

3. Nintendo decided to focus just on games, and the expense of everything else.  It didn't want to jump on the high def bandwagon, which wasn't there when Nintendo showed up with the Wii, and it still isn't there now.

4. Nintendo released the best videogame bowling game EVER with Wii Bowling.  As far as I see it now, it has been unmatched even now.  Anyone know a better bowling game than Wii Bowling?  Please let me know.

5. Thinking non-gamers as a target, and making a system that draws new people in.  Initial sales for the Wii did NOT get out to such people, but it did catch on later.

So, there you go. I am sure I missed some.  But as I said before, hard core, high def videogame fanboys don't want to think about a system that went against about every bit of conventional wisdom up until the Wii came out.

You forgot the part about how Sony let Microsoft stomp them into the ground last Christmas just so they can outsell them massively throughout 2009 and surpass them in total sales by the end of the year, demoralizing MS to the point that they leave the business.

Otherwise, great post! I agree totally. Halo is dead, and the 360 is next on the slab.

I agree with some of what you said. 1 1/2 year advantage in Others for 360 as well as price advantage, and PS3 was on track to pass 360 in others (before the price drop).

Well I agree a 8 million gap is pretty small for a 1 year and 5 months headstart for PAL regions (a little less for Japan/US and well more for some other regions).

The PS3 sold well more its first year of availability worldwide.

Yes, the PS3 performs well better taking equal timeframes despite higher entry pricing and anticipated PS3 exclusives spanned out over a wider period of time than anticipated 360 exclusives.

The long term outlook is pretty good, locally there are still unsold 360s from the holiday season in stock ((((((=>stickers placed over the 30 euro payback, 119 euro including taxes entry pricing deals).

I love your Rol impersonations.

Actually, it's a CrazzyMan impression. I'll underline and show you.

PS2 had a 1 yr headstart, so just be quiet PS fanboy.

PREDICTIONS:
(Predicted on 5/31/11) END of 2011 Sales - Xbox 360 = 62M;  PS3 = 59M;  Wii = 97M
