Forums - Sony - How sony defeated Microsoft

Well I agree a 8 million gap is pretty small for a 1 year and 5 months headstart for PAL regions (a little less for Japan/US and well more for some other regions).

The PS3 sold well more its first year of availability worldwide.

Yes, the PS3 performs well better taking equal timeframes despite higher entry pricing and anticipated PS3 exclusives spanned out over a wider period of time than anticipated 360 exclusives.

The long term outlook is pretty good, locally there are still unsold 360s from the holiday season in stock (=>stickers placed over the 30 euro payback, 119 euro including taxes entry pricing deals).

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

PS3 vs 360 sales

Nobody has defeated nobody. There's alot more consoles to be bought this Gen, and alot more important games to come out. I think both companies have achieved something. Sony has proved that you can sell millions of consoles at an incredible price, MS has proved that they are indeed a recognised force in the industry. I'l not mention Nintendo cause we all know how they're doing..

oh dear

When a 400 euro piece of harware sells more than a 179 euros piece of hardware, this week is just the beginning...

When the XBOX 360 has ONLY 8 million more units sold than the PS3, but with more than one year than the PS3 in the market (one year and half for europe)and in a year Sony sold 10 million units.

The most hyped game is also no more Halo but KZ2 !

Enough said !

Meh, I was bored so tried to tidy up your poor English, most of it needs re-written though

Agreed.

IMO Microsoft isn't a small company lacking resources and hasn't done something remarkably against all odds.

I still remember the days when nearly all major games were released for Windows first, I still remember when Microsoft bought out companies like Bungie, which was a major Macintosh games developer. A lot has changed in that regard.

IMO the original XBox could have sold well more if the console wasn't discontinued prematurely and if Microsoft put more emphasis on the console vs Windows releases (like is now the case with regard to the 360).
