Forums - Nintendo - My First Reaction to RE5

I would welcome the removal of co-op in a Wii version of the game. I just think Resident Evil is something you play alone and not with backup

Yup, same thing here. Analog controls for Resident Evil sucks. :(

They made it spectacular on the 'Cube. I haven't played RE4 Wii. Is RE5 really that much worse control wise?

If you use the defualt settings it's horrible. Right Stick aims and turns, and left stick general movement. This is annoying because if you want to run or use a special attack you'll have to move your thumb to the face buttons. Makes running on the go harder because you can't hold A and the both sticks at the same time, so it's very difficult to run and turn. Very akward to try and both evade and fight back since you have to keep moving your thumb around.

You can change the control type to the RE4 standard though, which I did my second playthough of the demo. That and change the aiming speed to fastest and it works pretty well. It's annoying they didn't really fix anything from RE4 though. Special attacks and picking up items are still on the same button which means you still pick-up bullets when you try to punch someone in the face. But this time your character picks stuff up in real time, that game doesn't pause like RE4, which means it's annoying and it'll blow your chance to land a hit because by the time he's finished the zombie isn't stunned anymore.

I don't like how co-op is handled either. I probably woun't have anyone to play this with if I get it, and it's obvious the game is meant to be played with two people. You can't use Sheva's items, only request them. She picked up a red herb at one point in the demo and I wanted to combine it with her green herb to make it better. But I can only request her items, which means I had to take them both, combine them, then give it back. I can't decide how many bullets I want to give or take, it just does it units of 30, which I rarely had. Can't control what she equips aside from not giving her ammo for guns I don't want her to use, can't switch to her character. This was all stuff you could do in Resident Evil 0, but not in 5. So it kinda screws up the single player for me, espeically since it uses some lame ass Gears of War pick up system where if the Sheva screws up and gets downed, I have to rush over and pick her up. And if she stands around and let's someone chainsaw her head off, I lose.

@BrainBox: I have the japanese psn demo, and the RE4 controls are the default.

Well I have the American XBOX360 Demo version, and the crappy two stick set-up is set to defualt, even though it's called control type D.

That's boss.

I'd like to reiterate that Capcom alluded to a Wii-specific RE game a year or two after 5 comes out.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

Tag, courtesy of fkusumot: "Why do most of the PS3 fanboys have avatars that looks totally pissed?"
"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

"Special attacks and picking up items are still on the same button which means you still pick-up bullets when you try to punch someone in the face. But this time your character picks stuff up in real time, that game doesn't pause like RE4"

What the hell? Okay, that might be a way to cut down on the "action" aspect, but it still seems cheap.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

So I can play this with the same controls as the Cube version of RE4?

Good enough.

RE5 should be made for the Wii

Here's what I believe.

RE4 is a defining game of our time. It's vastly better than most of these other so-called AAA rehashes we are forced to deepthroat everytime one of them struggles its way out of its financially induced overlong graphics-based development process.

RE4: Wii edition is a cashin port of that great game.

However, it is notable for bringing to the table a nice and easy method for dealing with clunky analog aiming found in all console shooters. Because the game intends for you to PAUSE then AIM, it is simple enough to take advantage of the inaccurate IR pointing device found on the Wii.

RE5, unjustly, is only being released on HD consoles, and Wii owners seem to want to use this slight downgrade to the control scheme as an excuse to up-play the Wii control, which are in theory, custom fitted to the game. Ironically, however, a large complaint about the Wii port is the IR controls actually made the game a tad too easy, and therefore, less suspenseful.

Unfortunately for FishyJoe, and the rest of you, you are overplaying your hand a bit here. The disparity between the control schemes exists, certainly, but it isn't a significant issue for most gamers, and it's obvious that this conversation is really about greatness of the Wii controls, and not about the series as a whole. RE:Wii was the Killzone 2 of the Wii. It proved, finally, that Wii controls/PS3 graphics, could be better than the competition given the right circumstances.

That said, RE4 was a fantastic, real AAA game, with or without IR, and one reason was its cutting edge graphics which RE5 would be forced to ignore were the game to appear on the Wii.

Resident Evil is Capcom's baby. They cherish no other series like it, and so we have been treated to a plethora of excellent main games, and possibly the best spinoff ever, Code Veronica. RE5 fans should just ignore most of the complaints of the mainstream whom before RE4, could have cared less about the series, and realize that Capcom has yet to let them down. The game will at least be good.

So, without too much more posturing, I'll slip into obscurity by saying: Leon is Jack Bauer on crack, and if you think Killzone 2 is as good as RE4, eat your gun.

This point is pretty ridiculous. Imagine the suspense for a game has to come from bad controls. If this theory is correct playing with my feet would make it more suspensful because of my fumbling around to shoot something.

Too bad RE killed suspense in the story and included  gameplay suspense by incorporating sluggish controls.

I'm just mad about the missing spooky atmosphere that gave me nightmares in middle school after playing resident evil:director's cut.
