If you are going to constantly call it huge, then it better damn well be one of the best selling games of the year. Whatever your actual intentions were, you contributed to the hype by using these phrases. You reap what you sow, now you must live with it. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

That's pretty much the way I feel about it.

If you hype a game as the messiah of the PS3, it better well deliver on its promise of redemption (which it hasn't).

I think the problem with the game, is that the marketing doesn't really explain what the game is... and really, when I would ask my clan-mates about the game, they couldn't describe it... they would say, "just buy it, and you'll see".

I think most gamers won't buy a game unless they actually understand what the game is.. and Sony has never really marketed the purpose behind the game very well.

QFT

What is "QFT"?

It means "quoted for truth."

EDIT: Holy crap, I didn't even realize there was a second page to this thread yet. I see someone already answered...

Yeah, been a few responses since then.

Like I said, I thought it meant, "Quit eff'n talking" because he thought I was an idiot.  Glad to know it has a nicer meaning!

oh wow, i guess i was working on some pretty bad assumptions. it is a company with only 27 people--http://uk.biz.yahoo.com/24102008/399/media-molecule-play-sony.html

the average pay is probably higher than 100,000k though. i'd imagine the founders make over $300,000 each after profit sharing, and the three specialists mentioned in the article should all make well over $100,000 in salary and bonuses--i'd put it to over $150,000. it appears to be a pretty selected group of engineers and employees, higher quality than your typical studio. so after including equiqment and office space and health benefits and taxes and the likes, i'd say about $150,000 in expenses per employee. probably higher, though.

no idea what the profit sharing between sony and media molecule, however. i'd imagine that sony doled out between $10-20 million, and the sharing of revenue is probably 70-30 between sony and media molecule? there's no way we'd know.

given that LBP is expected by sony to be a success, i'd still put the subsidized cost at around 1 million units. i'd revise downward my estimate of 1.75 million units of "in-vacuum" success of LBP though, to 900,000 units. so i'd estimate it be a success when it hits 1.9 million of units sold, which LBP should have no problem hitting.

the Wii is an epidemic.

Lair and Uncharted both costed 20 million to make. Uncharted people made the engine from the ground up.... Gears of War cost 10 million to make. Epic used the Unreal Engine for that saving them money. Doubtful LBP was anywhere near 20million. (these games are considered to have high budgets. I doubt MM has a high budget for a very small studio and no previous work to show)

IMO 8mil to make the game.

Too many horrible predictions about lbp made this situation. Some actually believed that it would outsell fable 2 , an established franchise , in both opening week and lifetime , which is just stupid.

To the guy saying lbp is a better platformer than mario. LBP is far from the platforming quality of mario , if lbp was strictly a platformer it wouldnt even get an average 70 score on metacritic. LBP is a level creator and a physics playground which are the best and basically only features that matters.

Please dont make stupid claims like this , it not only gives this game a worser rep , it also makes people realize you know nothing about games.

Mario> LBP ANYDAY

Every word in the middle paragraph is wrong.

Edit: Not every word is wrong.  Mario is still king, but LBP would still be a 90+ game without the level editor.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

I do agree with dbot.

And have to say that LBP is actually more fun to play than New Super Mario Bros, for example, which was too easy for my taste.

Lots of love were obviously put into this game and it has a lot of quality. And is incredibly fun to play co-op with a friend in your house or with other three people online. The personalization features, level creator and level sharing are great and make this game enjoyable for a loooooooooooooooong time.

Play my LittleBigPlanet level: Mystic Runner. Thanks!

Whats your excuse for it selling over 60k ? 20k more than last week in the U.S?

Because of bundles in the U.S that dont exist?

Holidays.

lol.

So the game is only selling because of the holidays and bundles.

>_>

No one is actually buying the game, and current PS3 owners aren't buying the game either.  Every unit sold is a new unit bundled with a PS3, and every unit sold in America is sold to Christmas shoppers.

mmmkay.

Its hilarious to see these responses. The 2nd week of sales threads poped up left and right talking about how LBP sales aren't huge. and "It will be lucky to break a million in a year" and "LBP doesn't have legs." and "LBP will drop off charts in a few weeks"

And all these posters knew about christmas. It's not like Christmas was kept a secret.  But now LBP proved them wrong and now "But but but CHRISTMAS!"

Seriously...

Yup.  That's the hilarious part.

It's be lucky to pass 1 million, apparently, but now everyone wants to use Christmas as an excuse as to why it's selling good.  Also these people knew that LBP would be bundled in EU, but now bundling is used as an excuse for sales when people said the game was falling out of the EU charts.

The hypocrisy is astounding, and saddening at the same time.

If it did bad, the responses would have been "Told you so", "I knew this wasn't huge," and the like, and the moment the game started doing good, it was: "Holidays", and "ZOMFG, bundles,".  This game was damned if it did, and damned if it didn't.

:'(

so christmas is an excuse for sales now....

"so why is a game selling better than what people said"
"CHRISTMAS!"

Wtf... seriously, It's not like christmas isnt well known. people knew it would sell then... no excuse

Its not the excuse, leo J asked "why lbp sold 20k more this week over the past week?" ManuelF is right, its because the holidays, almost every game got a bost thanks to that, that isnt and excuse, its a fact. This is for the dmj post to.
