Man, I'd love to go back someday.

Both my visits, while amazing, were marred by unfortunate circumstances; in my first visit as a high schooler my OCD got out of control and I had to come home early for my health, while in my second visit I was in a somewhat unhealthy relationship where I was getting yelled at most days.

It'd be nice to visit under better conditions, someday.

In prior visits I saw Tokyo, Kamakura, Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and Kobe, maybe next time I should visit Hokkaido or the south, maybe go in spring. (Prior visits were in Autumn/Winter and Summer, the latter during a record heat wave)

I paid 38.040 Yen now for a trip to Kyoto and back. I wouldn't exactly call that cheap. But whatever, at least its fast. =D

Standard fee seems to be 13,320 yen right now, so 26,640 round trip. Local train even cheaper at 8500 yen, but you can make that even cheaper.

It's honestly not cheap at all. Especially when you consider that everything else is so cheap because of the exchange rate.

The difference is that the ticket price stays the same. In many other countries it's cheaper when you buy in advance or travel during hours when they won't sell as many tickets. That's great when you have to be somewhere on short notice but as a tourist you plan ahead weeks and months in advance and still have to pay the same high price.

Also I checked prices when I used the Shinkansen from Osaka to Tokyo (well I disembarked in Yokohama) and a flight would have cost the same amount.

For example (express train):

Milan to Rome (~570km; 3h15min) is 38 € if you book in advance.

Osaka to Tokyo (~515km;2h20min) is around 85 € currently. And that is with a favourable exchange rate.

As above, 13320 yen, is around 75 euro. Much faster and smoother than Euro trains too.

Yeah so twice as expensive even though everything else is cheaper. Glad you confirmed it yourself.

Never had a problem with Italian or Spansih high speed trains. Shinkansen is a little faster but at high speeds like that you won't save that much time.

What I mean by smoothness is the delay rate. Shinkansen are basically never delayed unless for safety reasons like typhoons and earthquakes. According to google, Spain has constant issues, while Italy performs much better but still not as well as Japan. For Europe, I guess Switzerland would be the best bet in that regard.

Feeling depressed being back? I was lol. Miss japan, going to have book another trip soon

Not OP, but I was deeply depressed before my trip to Japan. After that my life changed for the better :).

I mean it was months ago, but it does feel like something that's hard to top anytime soon. But I don't really feel sad about that fact, that just means it was great.

My bf really wants to go to Japan someday and I'm a bit of a weeb so I'll for sure go there at some point. The language barrier does concern me though.

Japan seemed to be 30 years ahead in almost everything. Coming back to my country, the noise and chaos, everything was like a kick in the gut. Like going to heaven and leaving.  Can't believe it's been almost a year, year moves too fast.

I went to Japan in April this year too! I loved it so much! So much to see, amazing culture, architecture, nature (cherry blossoms!) Here's my favorite picture I took from the trip :

Signature goes here!

Nice pictures, Forza Horizon 6 did a great job in capturing the essence of the country even though it's a very condensed version of it and it would have been nice if it had another big Japanese city besides Tokyo.
