Excellent taste! I have a few that I can indicate from the back of my mind, but in terms of 'perfection' in doing what it proposes to do, this one comes pretty close! I remember a critic once said about this flick that 'it has not a single wasted frame', or something like that, and I can only agree. One might not like it or what it represents, but from a technical standpoint it's pretty much as close to what you will get to a perfect 10 in the proposed line, even if there are films I like more!

Yeah Alien, Jaws, and Princess Mononoke, Zodiac, and Spirited Away are among those I'd classify as pretty much perfect too.

I'll also throw in the Shawshank Redemption and Se7en, both masterclasses in cinema IMO.

Lord of the Rings trilogy
Amadeus
Project Hail Mary
Shaun of the Dead
Princess Mononoke
Spirited Away
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Pineapple Express

The Substance. I thankfully went in knowing little about it kinda seeing it on a whim and I can't really imagine a way to tell a story with that premise that would be more enthralling than it ended up being. I left the cinema feeling genuinely stunned due to what I had just witnessed.

I'll do this from a different angle. At certain times of the year there are some movies I like to watch that I feel are perfect for that occasion.
At Easter: The original Charlie and the chocolate factory.
At Halloween: Sleepy Hollow.
At Christams: Die Hard and While you were sleeping.

Too many to name. Casablanca, Godfather, E.T., The Wizard of Oz. So many.

I don’t believe in perfection when it comes to art. Too many different perceptions and criteria relative to the viewer. Any kind of attempt at an objective list of criteria more or less self-defeats the idea of perfection in art by making perfection synonymous with generic.

But some of my favourites have already been mentioned: Vertigo, Rear Window, Notorious, 2001: A Space Oddysey, Blade Runner, Blade Runner 2049, Citizen Kane, RoboCop, Titanic, Casablanca, Fantasia (revised), Sleeping Beauty, Princess Mononoke, When Marnie was There, Akira, Millenium Actress, Hereditary, The Witch, Lawrence of Arabia, Gandhi.

That’s off the top of my head, I have a lot in my top tier, many of which I’m not thinking of at the moment because I’m whiny and forgetful from a man cold. 😄

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
