Eastern games were great when I was younger. Nintendo appealed to me, the cartoony anime style RPG's and their sappy stories were great. Now that I am older, I pretty much despise eastern style games. Don't care about Nintendo games as an adult, and the majority of eastern games have super sexualized young characters that are off putting, and trash stories imho. E33 was a JRPG actually done right for a mature grown up audience and surprise, it blew away any JRPG since like, SNES/PS1 days.

AAA gaming as a whole is kind of a joke right now, which imho hurts east more than west, since there is a huge wealth of superior indie studios that make western style games.

Depends:

Arcades - mostly Japanese
Computer games - overwhelmingly western
Consoles - combined (though I count PC ports of consoles games here as well, so something like Souls or Crimson Desert would be in here as well)

East wins easily on average though a lot of my absolute favorites are from the west (Warcraft 3, WoW, The Witcher, Portal and Half-Life). But there's a lot of deeply unintersting games made in the west as well and much more of those at the moment.

29 are Eastern. 21 are Western

I think estearn wins

Eastern, I enjoy a good Western game especially some of Sony's western studios. But Nintendo, Capcom, Square, and Atlus/Like a Dragon studio of Sega are usually my favorite games.

I just like good games, wherever they come from. But it’s true, most of my favourite devs come from Japan. The only other Eastern dev that comes to mind is CDPR.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Eastern games, although over recent years there has been an association between games aimed at Eastern audiences and phone gacha mechanics.
My hope is that developers don't think "lets create a gacha game" whenever they decide they want to make a game which appeals to an Eastern audience, but I'm concerned that this is increasingly becoming the case.

I don't think CDPR counts for Eastern for the purpose of this thread...

I lean Eastern myself.

Some of my favourite games are Western though; Bioshock 1/Infinite, Banjo Kazooie, Mass Effect trilogy, DKC trilogy, Doom series, etc.

On the other hand, the combined power of Nintendo's first party plus games like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Bayonetta, Stellar Blade, Nier Automata, 13 Sentinels, etc swing things East overall.

About the same. I don't prefer one over the other because I don't think either is doing anything remarkable interesting/ unique to make them feel different from the other, outside of some exceptions I suppose.
