I see what you’re saying but AI will never be huge part of any nation’s electrical demand.  What about people’s homes and refrigeration/hvac? Just bc AI is a growth industry right now, doesn’t mean that it should keep growing at huge rates forever. The balloon will burst as they say and the hype will die.

You have some really extreme opinions, perhaps try to moderate them a bit so that you can be more confident in their strength.

I tried that before, and didn't get anywhere. If extreme opinions will save the world from AI data centres then so be it. If people were to blow up every AI data center then I would support them. Nonviolent resistance doesn't work anymore.

The number of times you call for violence, either directly against forum members or indirectly, is concerning.

Dude, chill on the violence.

I am german and I tell you a story about german history. Not the one you think, later than that, in the 1970s. German students saw their protests of capitalism and imperialism (worthwile goals I support) failed and the disappointed ones started to evaluate other options. Some entered regular political parties, moving through the institutions and some of our politicians today are from these. Others took a more radical turn. Especially a group that called themself Rote Armee Fraktion (RAF, english Red Army Faction) decided the time for nonviolent resistance is over. They started a series of domestic terror attacks in germany, that involved kidnapping, hostage situation, the direct and targeted murder of 33 people and bombings that left more than 200 injured. They achieved nothing of their goals of dismantling capitalism and imperialism. Instead they tarnished the ideologies they strived for for decades to come. People that were sympathetic to the goals stopped supporting them in fear to be seen as associated with or supportive of the RAF. So in reality, not only did they not achieve their goals, they actually hindered them. All because they chose violence.

Then what the fuck are we supposed to do to stop data centres from destroying the world? No matter what we do or say they pop up everywhere, stealing drinking water, adding noise pollution, releasing forever chemicals, and driving up electricity costs. You sound like all we can do is just sit back and wait to die. -_-

Despite what people tell about past generations, they did solve quite a few problems. SvennoJ names a few of them, but they didn't solve themself, people did something. Not blowing up stuff, but getting into negotiations and drafting international contracts. None of that was easy. But it was the way to go.

For instance, the about the ozone layer the Montreal Protocol was made to ban FCKW: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreal_Protocol

It wasn't easy, but that is the point. All these problems: ozone layer, acid rain, the threat of nuclear destruction — all of that were complicated and quite difficult problems to solve.

There is also another way, or more one complementing the international treaties: scientific and technical progress. Acid rain was stopped by more sophisticated filters for both factories and cars. The governments then mandated their use, but they had to be created first. Same with climate change: people had first to develop wind power and solar power into a usable state, now government regulation like the german renewable energy sources act and the european green deal are possible, because first the technical progress made renewable energies available and practical. And the success is visible: https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/annual-co2-emissions-per-country?country=~OWID_EUR

So negotiate or invent. And yes, both ways take a long time and are difficult. That is life.

We did that back in the 80s, waiting for the bombs to fall while acid rain was destroying the forests. We're still here, but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger should be what doesn't kill you makes you more complacent... Humanity has been bombarded with existential threats for many decades, WW3, ozone layer, asbestos, mad cow disease, y2k, dot com bubble, peak oil, solar storms knocking out the power grid, global warming. So now you're regarded as "the boy who cried wolf" by the majority. Not that those were all false alarms, far from it, but that's how people interpret it when they don't die... Humanities downfall will be that hazards are only addressed after a tragedy occurs. One day that tragedy will be too big to recover from. Climate change might be it, going slow and irregular enough to be mostly ignored, yet irreversible with today's technology.

Feels like the world could end any day now.

When I call for violence on forum members I'm just playing into a personal I made years ago.

When I call for violence against real world scumbags I'm serious, because historically violence was how real evil was stopped. Look at Gadhafi or Mussolini. Negotiating didn't stop them, vigilante justice did.

But it feels like we're out of time to negotiate, and the rich elite are too powerful to be defeated with nonviolence. -_-

You have a murderous persona. Not concerning at all.

He’s just messing around with people, but calling for actual data centers to be blown up, so I can understand. Perhaps this is his band of drama. I’m gonna grab his ass if he don’t behave.

I use it to vent. I'm sick of there not being real justice for everyone who has been and will be fucked beyond repair by pedophile billionaires and their useless AI data centres. I'm also sick of people who laugh off the extinction of life on Earth because I use movies as an example of how we're all going to die. That's the same stupidity that Churchill faced when warning England about the Nazis, or environmentalists have faced for years when warning everyone about climate change, which is getting even worse by the way.

All you have done is mock my justified concerns and brought nothing productive to the discussion. People like you are why the world is doomed.

I must be of a different generation, not sure how murder is "messing" around.  But meh, whatever.  I will just stay away from him.

It's not just drama, it's a call to resist and fight back. We're not going to survive by just sitting around and hoping for legislative change to fix things.

Good, because you're bringing nothing productive to the legitimate concern about data centres, and I doubt you have the decency to ever bring anything productive. Don't even bother speaking to me ever again.

There are some people who are concerned with the advent of the age of AI. There even a few who are worried.

You are taking an extreme position though by saying that data centers should be blown up in what amounts to be a popular rebellion against ai overlords that aren’t even wanting to be in control. If an ai overthrow scenario is possible then all of the people creating it would be able to judge that and just pull the plug if need be.
