I am german and I tell you a story about german history. Not the one you think, later than that, in the 1970s. German students saw their protests of capitalism and imperialism (worthwile goals I support) failed and the disappointed ones started to evaluate other options. Some entered regular political parties, moving through the institutions and some of our politicians today are from these. Others took a more radical turn. Especially a group that called themself Rote Armee Fraktion (RAF, english Red Army Faction) decided the time for nonviolent resistance is over. They started a series of domestic terror attacks in germany, that involved kidnapping, hostage situation, the direct and targeted murder of 33 people and bombings that left more than 200 injured. They achieved nothing of their goals of dismantling capitalism and imperialism. Instead they tarnished the ideologies they strived for for decades to come. People that were sympathetic to the goals stopped supporting them in fear to be seen as associated with or supportive of the RAF. So in reality, not only did they not achieve their goals, they actually hindered them. All because they chose violence.

Then what the fuck are we supposed to do to stop data centres from destroying the world? No matter what we do or say they pop up everywhere, stealing drinking water, adding noise pollution, releasing forever chemicals, and driving up electricity costs. You sound like all we can do is just sit back and wait to die. -_-

We did that back in the 80s, waiting for the bombs to fall while acid rain was destroying the forests. We're still here, but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger should be what doesn't kill you makes you more complacent... Humanity has been bombarded with existential threats for many decades, WW3, ozone layer, asbestos, mad cow disease, y2k, dot com bubble, peak oil, solar storms knocking out the power grid, global warming. So now you're regarded as "the boy who cried wolf" by the majority. Not that those were all false alarms, far from it, but that's how people interpret it when they don't die... Humanities downfall will be that hazards are only addressed after a tragedy occurs. One day that tragedy will be too big to recover from. Climate change might be it, going slow and irregular enough to be mostly ignored, yet irreversible with today's technology.
