This graphics engine enhanced for Switch 2 (think Switch 2 can run this with ease)

Basically honestly I wouldn't mind what FF7 Remake did for FF7 done for Ocarina of Time.

A few new dungeons and story elements so it isn't so predictable, much more robust Hyrule Field.

The Switch 2 needs this to be a big seller IMO.

They already did a plain refresh of the first game in OoT 3D, there's no point in just doing that again and it won't sell Switch 2 systems. They need to aim bigger with this, I think they know that. The Switch 2 not having a new Zelda game early in the life cycle was always going to be a big disadvantage for it versus Switch 1, a big budget/big scale OoT remake is the closest thing in impact you could get to a brand new Zelda game.

Man… just thinking of an OoT remake as filling role of the big 3D Zelda release for Switch 2. The potential for something massive is there! I gotta keep expectations in check though— the Zelda fan in me says to expect a FFVII-style remake, but the realist is saying to expect no more than a remake in the style of the 3DS remake. Don’t wanna be disappointed here.

Yeah I get people not wanting to get their expectation up, but from Nintendo's POV if you're looking at the Switch 2 launch software crop for the first 1 1/2 years ... like Mario Kart World is great but they had to know not having a Mario platformer and a new Zelda would be a significant disadvantage for Switch 1.

I think a big remake of OoT makes a lot of sense, it would also tie in with the live action Zelda movie coming in spring 2027 too.

All I can think of at the moment is fix Princess Ruto so that she at least apologizes to Link for her behaviour in Jabu Jabu's Belly, and, like in Breath of The Wild, let NPCs react in fear to Link swinging his sword at them, so you can lash out at characters you don't like. *points to Mido*

Above all, keep the core framework and vibe intact.

Don't mess with it too much, just bring it up to modern standards in terms of tech, controls, quality of life, etc.

They can flesh out or streamline certain gameplay sections, but don't stray too far from the original, it's one of the most beloved games of all time for a reason.

YOU never played Ocarina of Time???

It got the best remake. Breath of the Wild. It was everything Nintendo wanted to do in 3D with Zelda since N64. What they should do is Give Oracle and Seasons the LA Remake treatment. I find it funny in 2026 still people wanting "realistic" Zelda and that ugly Wii U demo. Such a mid 2000s mindset.

Remake needs to be faithful. Same game but with updates graphics, 60 fps, better controls and QoL. Does not need to be imagined.

Right now I just want them to leave the classic alone, if I’m being honest 🤣 I don’t really see how they can improve on it. It basicly defined how a lot of 3D games would play for generations afterwards, what are you gonna do to top that?

That being said, I’ll try to have an open mind, after all the 3DS game turned out fine, it wasn’t really better than the original, but a good way to experience it. But maybe I feel it kind of helped that it was on weak hardware, so they couldn’t really make it look modern and shiny, which would have been off-putting to me. I much preferred what they did with that remake/remaster compared to what they did to Link’s Awakening, the Switch version or even the DX version for that matter. That game had such a beautiful artstyle in the original monochrome version, but I guess that wasn’t appealing to the masses.

Can’t complain too much about the Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword remasters, but I can’t see Nintendo taking that approach to Ocarina of Time, the little tweaks they did to those other games won’t be enough to make OoT look modern.
I hope they won’t take the Snake Eater/Oblivion approach, I genuinely think those remakes just drained the personality out of the presentation.
Then rather go all out nuts and do Final Fantasy VII style and change the game completely.

Somewhat minor thing I wanna see fixed in an Ocarina of Time remake; restore the red blood so that Ganondorf doesn't look like he's just coughing up green slime.

I wouldn't... as in even want a remake.

OOT was like Sgt. Peppers from the Beatles. It was this thing that came out at a particular moment in history that redefined everything we knew about gaming (and for some, a little bit about ourselves in the bargain). It was like Star Wars, or freakin' E.T. It was transcendent. Once-in-a-lifetime. Unrepeatable.

And so a remake? No. It can't do that again. It can get shinier. It can get better frame rates. It can gain lifelike textures and clearer audio. It can do things that the original and its players never even dreamed possible.

But it can't do what the original did.

Ever.

Whenever I see that phrase, all I hear in my mind is, make it easier to beat.
