Does it make it make financial sense for Nintendo to make more Switch hardware that can't Switch?

Yes, Switch 2 Lite 10 47.62%

Yes, TV-only Switch 2 8 38.10%

Other, explain 3 14.29%

They could easily have made the Switch Lite compatible with televisions it would only have cost a few cents but it would be limited to portable resolutions as the console is designed for lower clocks and cooling at those clocks. A lower grade tv output would have been useful occasionally even if the game was dynamically changing resolution to a very low resolution. However from what I've read those who have modded their Switch Lites have had no problem running at full resolution Switch resolutions with a hdmi adapter board. I really think the Switch 2 Lite should have TV output but again only at portable resolutions but I don't think a Switch 2 Lite is possible until they shrink the fabrication process to something more modern maybe 6Nm or less. The current T239 is on a mainly 10Nm fabrication process so generates more heat and is more power hungry and I really can't see that chip being usable in a smaller handheld with an even smaller capacity battery. I think the current Nintendo company is more interested in bringing out a more premium OLED Switch 2 but I could see a Lite model piggybacking on that if the OLED version has a new improved fabrication process just like the Switch Lite benefits from the same Mariko chip in the OLED Switch model. Maybe a Switch 2 Lite will have a slightly cut down spec too. Maybe only 128GB storage built in and slower read/write speeds plus memory incapable of running at docked memory speed just the 68GB/s portable level. Maybe just a 720p screen too with patches for portable games that can only run at 1080p. If you connect a Switch 2 to a 720p max external display then the Switch 2 must generate a 720p image so maybe there is a software layer to do the same for a lower resolution display panel already built in. This could be an advantage to running Switch 1 games on a Switch 2 lite.

I personally do think a Switch 2 Lite will happen but of course no idea when it will come out. We could be 4 or 5 years from it happening if its a lower priority for Nintendo.

My Switch Lite is my favourite Switch to carry with me in the backpack and use away from home.

The more the merrier. Switch 2 Lite, TV, and Pro would all be good options for certain groups. None would sell as many units as the standard model, but they don't need to. They'd add up to the Switch family totals, and make more people happy, so I'm all for them.

This.

I would so buy a Pro right now even though I got the OG Switch 2 on launch day (which I will make it my Portable only one).

I would have actually preferred a dedicated handheld from the get go.

Apparently there is a large consumer base of Nintendo fans that never use the Portable aspect....
they leave it, hooked up to the tv once they buy it, and basically never use it any other way.

So yes, I think that makes more sense than a portable only device.
If they can knock off like 50-100$ off the price... and offer a switch 2 that is only a base console they should.

I find the idea of a Switch 2 tv very appealing myself.

While it would be quite highly priced in North America for what it is (and maybe other regions) I still think there's room for a Switch TV.

64 GB Storage and an ethernet port like Switch OLED and Switch 2 and a Pro Controller included instead of JoyCons (with a disclaimer on the box about compatibility). Without tariffs, it could be $120-$170. With them, it would probably be $150-$200.

But again, Nintendo seems content to greatly scale down Switch production even more than we anticipated so a TV-only model will likely be saved for Switch 2. And it might be a Pro Version at a premium price point instead of savings for people who want the current Switch 2 specs without handheld capabilities.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

I think having all three console form factors would be ideal: Hybrid, Handheld, and Home.

Releasing all three upfront would be great, but I think releasing a new type of model every 2 years would be great too; maybe an update of the hybrid every two years and then an update of the handheld or home console every 4 years.
2026 → Home Console 2.1
2027 → Hybrid Switch 2.2 (OLED, larger screen, chip update, that sort of thing)
2028 → Handheld 2.1
2029 → Hybrid 2.3
2030 → Home version 2.2
2031 → Switch 3.1
2032 → Handheld 3.1 (maybe even 2.2 budget model here... which might contain some of Switch 3's features on Switch 2 power)
and so on....

Either that, or group them into Hybrid + other form factor every second year.

Bottom line, I'm in favour of providing as many options as possible along a feasible timeline.

Nintendo 3DS sold 76 million and Nintendo DS sold 154 million. What kind of obvious question is that ?

Switch 2 Lite should be a no brainer, especially as having a cheaper model will be far more crucial this gen than last due to economic circumstances. Launch that thing in 2027 for say $350 alongside the next Animal Crossing and watch sales explode.

A TV only one I don't expect, as they had 8+ years to make on for Switch 1 but chose not to.

I do think the economic circumstances and entry price points are different this generation, so I see it more likely. But it may just be against Nintendo's vision.

Switch 2 Lite will certainly come out later. The Switch 2 SoC is pretty power-hungry, so I expect a die shrink to come before Nintendo will produce one, though, as the smaller lite with less space for a battery would probably run out of battery too fast on the OG chip.
