Switch 2 does already have one big step up over Switch 1 for me, in that it has its own Mario Kart and Donkey Kong games; the absence of both was one of my few disappointments with Switch 1, as someone who already played Mario Kart 8 and Tropical Freeze on Wii U back in 2014.

An excellent point. It's unlikely that Switch 2 will give a new title to every IP that got one on Switch. A brand-new flagship Mario Kart and new Donkey Kong title were both missing on Switch.

And some IPs might get less titles than they got on Switch.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

For me, I am put off with the game cards. I like to own the full game at hand. I want the games to be forever in my collection. Then there's the pricing of these games. They are out of reach for me. S1 games did keep their value but they were still much cheaper when buying used from ebay. I feel over time. S2 games that have the full title on the card will more likely increase in price over time. Making it more difficult to collect them. The e-game cards could be cheaper used due to them not being in demand as much. But could be wrong there.
With Nintendo hardware, their consoles or handhelds have for so many over the years, become their secondary console. Like myself PS5 or Xbox would be the primary console in the home to play. Where the Nintendo console, you tend to play it for their own 1st party titles. So I dont believe that with the S2 3rd party titles are an advantage even with the better performance. If the switch 2 only had 3rd party, it would not sell.
My switch is hooked to the TV. I cant play games on handheld screens at all. So if its a 3rd party game, im playing it on my PS5, as it runs and look better..
Ive yet to purchase a S2 as Im not ready for it. As the games aren't there. And will I be able to afford them

True, but the balance may be more in favour of one's tastes this time around.

Getting a new MK and DK is a big deal for me for example as they are two of my favourite Nintendo IPs, while I wouldn't really mind if say there wasn't another Mario Tennis or Fire Emblem Warriors on Switch 2 as those aren't my cup of tea.

Switch 1's first party lineup was excellent overall, but I do think Switch 2 has the possibility of topping it.

As mentioned earlier, i think another somewhat common complaint about Switch 1 was how port-dependent its library was especially the first half of its life. I can agree to this to a certain extent, too dependent on deluxe Wii U ports to fill out their schedule and you had to pay another 60$ even if you already own that same game on Wii U.

To most people this wasn't an issue on Switch because most Switch owners never owned a Wii U so many people just viewed these ports as new games/experiences, but for the more dedicated fans with a Wii U like me it wasn't as excited to get and re-buy ports which could have been instead filled a new game.

I still loved the Switch 1, still my favorite console of all time, but it was a bit disappointing that we never got an original Mario Kart on the system and that there weren't a ton of new original games the first half of its life.

Switch 2 won't deal with this problem, everything is backwards compatible right out of the box and even get upgrades to many of these games at no additional charge. I think this will force Nintendo to be less complacent depending on re-releases and rather make more new original games. I also think that Nintendo only supporting the Switch 2 to start along with backwards compatible Switch 1 games will lead their software teams to release more new games in its 1st half compared to Switch 1, since Nintendo was still making games for the 3DS up until 2019 so that competed with the Switch 1 for games a bit.

From what I've seen from Switch 1, here are the most common complaints I've heard all generation, and ill give my opinion on if I think the Switch 2 addressed these complaints in an attempt to see if Switch 2 may be a better console.

-"Switch 1 way too underpowered, poor performing games which limited 3rd parties also"

This was definitely the biggest complaint I've heard all gen for Switch 1. People were fed up with how underpowered it was especially towards the latter half of the gen. I think the 1st half of the Switch's life while it was still underpowered, it didnt really feel much like it at first, we got impossible ports like Doom that felt pretty comparable to the PS4, stuff like Fortnite, Rocket League, Mortal Kombat 11and even Witcher 3 were pretty good and amazing ports at the time and people were moreso just grateful to see these games run on a handheld in the first place.
However, I think starting around 2021, once the PS5 released, other handheld gaming PCs like the steam deck released, and games started getting more demanding moving onto 9th gen and developers now maximizing their efforts on 8th gen hardware, the Switch began to feel outdated, we had Steam Deck running games at PS4 level, new gen doing 4k while 3rd party Switch ports couldnt even hit 720p at times, and just started see poorly running ports like Mortal Kombat 1, Apex Legends, and others. We also started seeing Switch miss out on many games just cause the hardware was too limited.
In hindsight, I think Nintendo could've done a better job future-proofing the Switch. The Switch was decently powerful for a portable in 2017 but definitely not top tier maximum tech they could have used, Nintendo actually rejected the more powerful hardware (likely Pascal architecture/Tegra X2) due to time constraints and an effort to balance cost, size and battery life so we got the Tegra X1 which already in 2017 was getting a bit dated. Nintendo also using an off-the shelf part wasn't the most beneficial either cause Nintendo couldnt manipulate the chip in ways that would maximize what they want to do with their hardware or games, so I think their decision to use Maxwell instead of Pascal wanst the best.

This time around with Switch 2, I think Nintendo is much better off hardware wise, yea this chipset is supposedly from 2021, but it encompasses modern features like DLSS, and other surprising features like 4k 120fps which seemed unheard of for a portable Nintendo console to do, so it seems like Nintendo didnt cheap out as much with the hardware. Developers have stated its GPU is closer to Xbox Series S which is highly impressive since the Switch 1 wasn't ever mentioned to be close to the current gen PS4/Xbox counterparts at the time. I think this chipset also being a custom chip with more time put into it allows Nintendo to maximize its potential more than it did with the Tegra X1 since they can make it easier for developers to make great looking games. We'll have to see how Switch 2 holds up once 10th gen releases, but I think a switch 2 is better off hardware wise relative to its time then Switch 2.

Another common complaint about Switch 1 is of course the joy-cons. They were uncomfortable, too small, fragile. The Switch 2 joy cons feel much better, premium and are less likely to get drift issues. The Joy Con 2s are still not the most comfortable thing ever, but definitely a bit improvement from Switch 1. So Nintendo addressed that issue.

I already mentioned the complaints about ports in my previous post, but TLDR Switch 2 will likely be better off since everything is already backwards compatible and will encourage Nintendo to make more original games.

The Switch 1 also received complaints for how basic and dry the system UI is along with features outside of just playing games.

Unfortunately, the Switch 2 didnt really address this issue at all, its practically the same UI and while Gamechat is cool, its not as big of a deal anymore with stuff like discord existing. Still missing stuff that gives a console personality, like music, themes, cool fun apps like Miiverse, just anything that gives the console a personality

I would guess not. Switch is probably my favorite system ever, which is down to the selection of games. It would be hard to top it. We'll see when more games are announced.

I bought Switch on day 1, but I'm not sure if I'll ever get Switch 2. Definitely enjoy Switch more.

I was a late adopter to the Switch; I didn't pick one up until late 2018. I played BOTW on the Wii U.

Switch 2 I got less than 3 months after launch and while MKW feels like complete disappointment after you've unlocked all the tracks, Kirby Air Riders is on the horizon and the whole reason I got NS2. I love the original on GameCube and this one looks even better. It'd be cool if they brought Kirby Air Ride to NSO GCN. That's my other reason for getting this system. My GameCube isn't getting any younger and I'm very happy to play GCN games on NS2.

I think so far it has been great. Return of DK was something I didn't expect. And some of the Nintendo Switch 2 editions have brought some life to past games which I haven't played in a while.

That said is DK Mario Odyssey or BoTW level? No it's up there but we haven't had the collective AHA moment yet.

What I am excited about though is the 3rd party experiences, mostly cause I don't have another system so for me at least it's a big plus. I still think until we see the big guns, we won't really know. Maybe we'll find out about the next 3D Mario soon...
