Forums - Gaming - Games you'd now rate higher now, after time has passed

Example for the thread. I scored Black Myth Wu Kong an 8 onve I beat it, after some days and continuing for the plat I upped it to a nine and now looking back, months later it feels like it was a 10 and the problems I had were nit picks or on me personally at the time or slight image quality issues. I feel I was too harsh over slight frustrations.

What games did you find you were too harsh on on your first playthrough and why would you rate them higher now?

Bloodborne's definitely grown on me over time; it's slowly crept its way up my top 50 games list.

Usually the opposite, I tend to get harsher on games over time.
Mario Party 6 was about an 8 for all my childhood, but a 9 from adulthood onward. I was spoiled with good Mario Party at the time and didn't know how good I had it. I think the only Mario Party game I prefer is Jamboree, especially once paid content is added.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Yeah, same here. When I revisit games after a few years I typically score them lower. Partially because I’ve exposed myself to more games in the interim, and partially because I’m able to be a little more detached when I evaluate them.

There are some examples going in the other direction, though. I have warmer feelings about Mario Kart Wii now than I did during the 7th generation, thanks to the Wii courses in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass. That was a very helpful reminder about how great the track design is in that game.

I love Mario Kart Wii, and always have. Granted I don't think I've played it in about 12 years. The track design and roster are pretty peak, and the Battle Mode is up there too. It's the item balancing that is way out of whack to me, even for a Mario Kart game.

I would say Xenoblade Chronicles ever so slightly grew on me (but still a 9 on a ten point scale both times) when I went from the Wii original and played DE years later. It helps that not only was I now more familiar with the story and mechanics to invest more but I turned it down to casual for a less lengthy and easier experience.

That's a tough one, because usually I'd rank games lower after some time has passed. Maybe Half-Life 2, because initially I thought it was just a cool shooter, now I actually find it to give things to think about and finer details to appreciate? Still overrated though, even though I've always liked it.

I wasn't really impressed with Killzone 2 back in 2009 just cos of all the hype about how it was going to be the "zomg greatest FPS game ever" and all that jazz.

Last year I revisited it out of curiosity, and with all the hype set aside, it's actually a good game with a strong sense of atmosphere and weighty, impactful action.

It's true, recency bias or another game in the genre can make games look inferior but it works in the opposite direction took. Like I was so sure Astrobot was just a good game until I played the end game for the platinum, it rose from a 7 to a 9 cause I was to engaging correctly n9r in the right mood for it, playing the levels a second or third time showed me how great that game is.

Whooooah. I can kinda see where you're coming from, perhaps you played it later than the 00's and the hype didn't live up? That game is was so wildly great even in 2006 when I played it first it felt revolutionary.

I can see this, the core shooting was a little stiff feeling, esspecially in MP. I wasn't hyped at all, didn't really think much of KZ1 but I got hooked so heavily on KZ2's MP.
