Forums - Sony - Clair Obscur expedition 33 is so good!

Just wanted to make this thread to recommend this game. Its a turn based, dark-fantasy game with some interactive elements, awesome story, amazing music, amazing characters and in overall an awesome experience.

I was fully expecting to be entirely focused on MH Wilds at this time of year - but as soons as I tried this game, it completely caught me. Cant recommend it enough!

It's my Game of the Year so far, and I honestly doubt anything superior will come by this year.

Crazy to think it's the first game from that studio.

Best game released this year so far. Beat it a week ago

When I finish Hitman I'll be back to act 3, there are many optional bosses and quests I haven't finished

Game of the generation and one of the best games of all time. When I bought this game I had no idea it would become one of my favourites of all time but go so far to reach the top of the top games that I still play after the platinum. I tried uninstalling it recently so I don't ruin it and get a playthrough where the enemy timing is forgotten a year from now but no luck. Thankfully, there is plenty of challenge in the Endless tower on Expert should you not overbuild. Midway through my third full run of the game and it does not loose fun, it peaked at bonkers level of fun and no matter how much I squeeze it I can not suck it dry.

By a country mile.

Metaphor is fantastic in that early game, loads of fun and overall I'd say it's a great game at about an 8/10 but then it goes through periods of stagnation and slogn. Atlus never promised Metpahpor would be a genre evolution or a maturing of they're particular style in the genre but they heavily implied it and yet this game delivered on exactly what they implied for Metaphor and with modern graphics to boot and no holding the player hostage for 80 hours with severe pacing issues, all the extra content is completely optional and not a nessessity to be leveled enough for the final fights. It actually is optional side content. No return of the king style climax that ends a dozen times or over spectacle in the final boss.

This game is leagues ahead of Metaphor. Funnily enough, it's a game that could be that padded out and stretched, not that it should, it's perfect the way it is but Atlus have no excuse now, they really need to up their game.

I still believe the journos only played the first 20-30 hours of Metaphor and that's why it is rated so highly rated as they scored the game on that where it could justify a 10. Look at the user scores, thst's where things are more reflective of people who've finished these games. I know only 33% of journos finished Clair Obscur cause the trophy data showed it the days leading up to release. If this was a title in an established series or from a company with a good track record this would be 95+, easily.

It is. Better OST and story. Metaphor has a more complex worldbulding, but Clair has potential to expand the world in next entries

Combat system itself is better on Metaphor because of press turn, but Clair fixes this with enemy (and boss) design and a huge amount of customization. Skillset of your characters are far and away the best and more intricated I've seen in any turn based JRPG (or JRPG-esque)

I will put it just one tier bellow videogames derived from table top RPGs (BG, Pathfinder, etc)

The devs traded accessibility for complexity, which allows you to make crazy things that break the game. There are intricated combination of skills, weapons and runes. Figuring out how to break the game is really fun

The combat can be very punishing. This is the Dark Souks of turned based combat. If you don't master parrying or dodging be prepared to beeaten alive. Even random field enemies can kill you in one turn if you don't invest enough resources in defense

Cool, go play LoD now.
