It's a 6/10 movie on IMDB, here a 7/10 review

Everyone needs to just calm down, we're not watching The Godfather ll here

Was it the greatest movie ever? No, but it's not supposed to be. It's a free new movie on Netflix and it wasn't as bad as everyone said it would be. Especially if you're a fan of Pratt or Brown. If you must, go into it with low expectations and I believe you will be pretty satisfied with this movie. It had heart, some light laughs and decent music. I would watch this movie with my kids again and probably enjoy it even more. Give it a chance. You're not spending $50 to see it in a theatre. It's just the cost of your Netflix subscription so it's worth it.

Free movie? As a matter of fact, I'm spending CAD 252 a year now for this... I've mostly been keeping Netflix for old content, but that's going to run out pretty soon. They spend 320 million subscriber money to make a 6/10 movie.

It's fine, just makes it easier to cancel in the future if they keep this up. The misguided dream/promise of subscriptions leading to higher quality is just that, misguided.

My PS6 is gonna be funded by their incompetence. I'll install Neflix on that ps6 and reassess the service but I'm cutting all sub services asides from YouTube Premium which is actually useful. It's all so shite, my government funded network along with VODs from the British Channel 4 and Virgin media all for free is easily enough content for me in the mean time and then buy in for a month at then end of the year if their is anything award winning.

Btw, whom are you quoting, I couldn't find that comment in the thread above.

Just to be clear, I'm not defending this movie or anything, I was talking in the general sense (if they want to make any good and expensive movies, then do it), but that's not what's happened with this one.

And that's what I was talking about, they release way too much stuff, some of that is good and some bad. Too much content makes it hard for me to find the good stuff, and they just killed a lot of good shows over the years... but even despite all of that Netflix is still huge. It's mind boggling. I unsubbed years ago and I feel I'm not missing much.

It's a matter of convenience. And with 2 kids, there's always someone watching something (in a month) on Netflix, well so far anyway.

And that's the whole point of subscriptions, lock you in cause of familiarity and multiple people using the service. The same as cable TV and now it's starting to approach the same price as well. Except you either pay a premium or can't skip commercials like you could since VHS.

Half the time on Netflix is spend in the menus looking for what to watch :/ So yeah I agree, too much stuff to wade through to find something decent. Hence I started watching Lost which I only watched a few shows of when it was aired. (In Season 6 now, going downhill, first couple seasons were great)
And I just bought Bablyon 5 complete series on Blu-Ray. I'll be Netflix free for a while after finishing Lost and Adolescense ( You peeked my interest @LegitHyperbole )

I thought that was Hangman Adam Page for a moment.

Basically everyone has Netflix is how, This movie cos them about 3 days worth of revenue.

300 million users a month. They are making so much profit they should have quality TV and films up weekly instead of dumping 320 million on a once off.

Hard agree. We've seen time and time again though that throwing out a bunch of money doesn't = good art.

I heard the movie wasn't very good, but it seems like it was successful for them, became the most watched movie on Netflix in most countries, including in the US where most of their subscribers are. But yeah, that budget seems outrageously high to me for a streaming movie, very few theatrical movies hit a budget that high.

Two minutes of viewing on Nefflix counts as a view, they changed it a few years back for some reason. At any rate the top ten aren't exactly competition, the Bee Movie is in there on my countries list. No way to gauge how this is doing cause they love deceiving you in this way, the only way they have to gauge content for yourself is a pretty decent recommendation algorithm with the "We think you'll love this" tag.

I probably haven't had Netflix in a couple of years and I don't miss it. If Netflix or any other service has several shows that I want to watch then I will sub for a month, watch the few things that interest me, then unsub. Otherwise, I watch Tubi, which is amazing for being free. Granted, I watch Youtube and ESPN+ (for the NHL) more than anything no matter what.

One thing I learned pretty quickly is that Netflix original movies are usually trash. They spend top dollar for a couple of big name actors then throw them into something completely forgettable. Amazon does the same thing. They're just churning out a product. The intent is simply to create content, which is enough to satisfy a lot of people. Just look a some of those reviews, they hand out 7/10 while suggesting that new viewers not go in with high expectations.

The reality is that consumers have been conditioned to accept mindless filler as a baseline.

I'd wish Netflix would only work on TV shows and no movies. They seem to be pretty decent with that with some nice shows and the flops weren't too expensive either. It feels like it would be much cheaper for me to have Netflix only with shows and see movies I really want to see in the cinema or as paid stream. The amount of movies Netflix releases and the average quality they have just doesn't justify the money they have to invest in them. With their shows I get way more watch time and they are mostly still cheaper to produce as long as it's not something like Stranger Things were actors became expensive stars. But even then I at least have hours of content.

Meanwhile, Ne Zha 2 only costs $80 million dollars to produce and made $2.113 billion dollars worldwide and is the 5th highest grossing movie of all time and the first movie to gross over 1 billion dollars in a single market. China now has overtaken the US when it comes to the biggest market for movies.

The internet ruined (almost) everything.

Studios have been spending extraordinary amounts of money on derivative films for decades, at least since the 1970s. That's the bulk of the blockbuster film industry. The appeal of those films are usually celebrities, explosions, and flashy lights. The reason, is these sorts of films = $$$. And everything is a gamble, if it's as bad as you say, I'm sure Netflix didn't go in thinking "Let's make a terrible film and spend loads of money on it" let alone with the addition of "to piss people off."

Unless you're a stakeholder, it's better not to concern yourself with what other people spend their money on. You'll be happier that way.

Note: I have no opinion on this particular film, I'd never heard of it before. But I'm also not much of a blockbuster fan. I'm more into horror, dark comedy. My favourite genre that most people hate is raunchy comedy, I'll watch Dirty Grandpa and Trailer Park Boys over 95% of Super Hero films.
