Well that was disappointing.

Not ground breaking but deffinitly not underwhelming! Saros alone prevents it from that. Yes their generation was weak and it was not a Nintendo Direct but the show was not that bad. We had some interesting multiplats as well like Sonic Racing Cross Worlds what actually reminds me of Rachet And Clank Rift Apart because of this fast changing worlds, wich also finally contradicts this old theory that you need an SSD for this fast level changes without loading times. According to this theory the PS4, Switch and Xbox One should not be able to run the game... |
Uh, judging by a quick look I took at the game, it's a relatively low-fidelity game graphically, and the world changes seemed fairly infrequent, so there should be plenty of time to load each new world while you're in the current world - assuming the game can't just keep it all loaded at all times anyway.
Not bad overall; kinda felt like a Sony version of Nintendo's Partner Showcase directs.
Sonic Racing, Shinobi, and Darwin's Paradox look cool.
Housemarque are on their 2nd PS5 game and still not a peep from Media Molecule.
Some of the gameplay footage from the presentation looked cool but not much in the way of exciting announcements.

Media Molecule's thing is to deliver a lot of freedom and creativity, so I certainly don't expect them to keep up a very regular release schedule for their games as most other studios do.
They will come up with something unique and take the time needed to make it possible. That's what I expect from them.
It was a decent showcase. The more I see of Borderlands, the less of the charm (I Guess that's the word for it) I see. It's getting more and more generic looking in my opinion. Also, I thought people were super hyped about the MGSD:SE remake but I don't see much of that anymore. Was it just announced too early or is the footage just kind of meh? I haven't ever really given the series a chance so it was mostly just an observation.
The Sonic Racing game was cool and I feel like it takes on an idea that Mario Kart has yet to endeavor into so points to them. The Midnight Walk, Darwin's Paradox, and Shinobi are my highlights of the show. Tides of Annihilation was good.

Not sure how many employees MM have they were basically a boutique studio when Sony bought them and iirc expanded to around 50.
Research shows Video games help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Their new game wouldn't have started active development till 2023 earliest I imagine since they had been supporting the expansion of Dreams with new content (including game content they made and released on the service).
I doubt you see MM until 2026, depending on the scope of their next game.

Seems like their marketing works. PS Blog is a good functioning source for gaming news. The Astro news has been liked more than 500 times (not even taking into account the additional 400 likes from SEA announcement). The next closest liked news was Saros at under 400 likes. Sony will know the metrics on their SoPs and PS Blog announcements. It clearly works.
It is also worth noting that it's not common for Sony to use their SoPs to announce new free content coming to one of their already released games. Those are typically reserved for PS Blog posts.
