Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Who else is not ready to move on to next-gen Nintendo?

I love the Switch, but I wanted new hardware by 2019 or 2020. And I'm not just talking power, but feature improvement/addition. Even without the new features, just an incremental upgrade, having a nicer looking Witcher 3 without those load times would have been great. I'd have paid for it.

There are some gaps in hardware capability that could have made games like Switch Sports and Ring Fit Adventure more feature complete and functionally superior, or features that could have made Animal Crossing NH more fun, like perhaps the re-addition of Streetpass, which (given history) would have extended the hype cycle for the game after COVID - I thought that was a weird feature to drop after 3DS, as those were unveiling some really fun ideas for casual games that you can't do on other platforms.

But that's from my POV. I don't see what Nintendo is doing and what they're struggling with. Perhaps they had some developmental difficulties with keeping the library going across generations, and they needed to sort that out first before heading into new generations. IMO, that's a great deal more important than getting out new hardware. I think it's most important to not just get "backwards compatibility" that's like the hacky "Wii Mode" "Have to play with GC controller" or "GBA slot" things they've done in the past, and have a smooth integration: playing my Switch games with the exact same access and interface as my Switch 2 games - just like on Windows, Mac, iOS, and other similar platforms that aren't even game centric - I think dedicated gaming consoles should be equal or superior to what the non-dedicated devices/platforms are doing. So, if Nintendo needed years of extra time for that, I'm more than fine for it.

But for the question, "ready to move on?" that still stays the same, I was ready years ago.

I'm ready by whenever they announce it. Imo, I haven't felt the urge some are speaking since I'm still playing some recent releases and upcoming one of theirs.
Of course, better resolution and FPS would revitalize some games I left in my backlog due to feeling they'd be best experienced on the sucessor, but this isn't gonna bar myself from playing what I want currently.

It's fine if you feel different on the question of playability on weaker specs, but I'm not heels over the whole debate.

I have games in my backlog from as early as 2010. Still ready for the next Nintendo system. Play all of my non-multiplayer Switch games on emulators on my Rog Ally at this point, because the hardware is getting dated.

I wish I only had 16 Switch games in my backlog, lol. I've been saying that I'm about 95 percent of the way from hundred percenting Monster Hunter Rise for about a year and some change now, and maybe once I do that in about two years, I can actually clear up the logjam by a pinch.

Needless to say, I'm in no big hurry for the Switch 2. From now on, I don't buy consoles at launch. I wait for special editions so my console can look cooler than everyone else's and it can possibly get me laid.

I never even went to the switch, let alone the switch 2. My kids will probably get it though and I'll watch.

Opposite. Nintendo makes amazing games but 900 (w/ no upscaling) at 30 fps can go **** itself. I'm more than ready for some 1st party 1440p 60 fps.

Given Nintendo's focus on style, I think 1440p at 60 fps is on the table.  It will be a significant jump.

I've only had mine since totk launched. So far no issues. While portable the games look fine. On my tv i use smooth motion turned on, which makes the game look around the 45 to 60 fps mark.

I adore my switch, but I’m definitely ready.

I reckon the next console will be fully backwards compatible anyway, so I will just swap out my trusty OLED switch with the new thing and nothing really changes. Maybe the new device will even suppot the Pro Controller, that would be nice. It has to support joy-cons though, so I can continue playing Ring Fit Adventure on it. =P

It's not like I desperately need MOAH POWAH, far from it. But the moment Nintendo brings a new console, I will get it day 1, because I know that I will enjoy it for many years to come. And just like with the Switch, I will also get every new revision they bring to the table, because why the hell not?

I am more than ready for an eshop experience that doesn't absolutely suck ass though. =P

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

I've been ready for better hardware since Bayonetta 3....
