I'm a Bioshock Infinite hater, it's a pretentious hallway shooter with two weapon limitation, ugh. Other than that I loved Ass Creed 4, the only one that I completed in this series and replayed too. But the GOTY is of course TLoU

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon. The Last of Us is a glorified depressant.

The Last of Us is one of the best games ever made, there is simply no competition.

Of these, A Link Between Worlds. Bioshock Infinite was a massive case of overpromised and underdelivered. It looked cool enough, I guess.

My 2013 GOTY was Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. Yes, I know it released in Japan a few years prior, but it came out in the west in 2013 and was by far my favorite game of the year. I feel it was important because not only was it the first time Studio Ghibli worked on a video game after a 1980s adaptation of Nausicaa soured them on the medium, but it (along with Xenoblade a few months prior) also signaled the return of high-quality Japanese RPGs to consoles, after over half a decade of being confined largely to the DS and PSP. It helped get me interested in video gaming again after a few years where I was pretty bored with gaming. I also loved the art style and the music.

A Link Between Worlds.
I actually have a hard time deciding which game I love more, this or Ocarina of Time.
This game though is by far my favourite to come back to and 100% complete each time.

Runner-up would be Papers, Please.

Voted for Tomb Raider enjoyed it a lot and it could have been even better if it did not have an online mode and instead made the single player campaign a bit longer. The same thing also applies to Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed: Revelations and I'm pretty sure there are some other games that are mostly single player that have an online mode that did not really add anything of value to the game.

As someone that doesn’t play intense games with horror elements I didn’t experience The Last of Us.
So I tried to think of something less obvious than the fun I had with GTA V I had all those years ago, but it still earned my vote.

Honourable mention to Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. I didn’t see it mentioned in the other section and that had great over the top moments.

I don’t drink much either, but if I’m to take that literally it’s like alcohol?  :p

We get deeper into our cold winter of gaming with the launch of the PS4 and XBox 1 this year.  The XBox 1 launch was pretty weak with their DRM plan regarding sharing and renting games.  PS4 also had its own special method of sharing games.  The Wii U launched the previous year, but it still wasn’t getting many new games and there were noticeable software draughts.

A perfect example of normcore humor, lol. It's a great illustration of why the PlayStation 4 obliterated the competition. People were tired of the standardization of gimmicks and contrived nickel-and-diming schemes for everything. There was a certain yearning out there for a return to normalcy, if you will. Sony communicated in that famous video that they were the brand representing that.

Speaking of humor surrounding the console wars of the time, 2013 was also host to YouTube Comment Reconstructions professionally dramatizing arguments from the comment sections of videos posted to YouTube. One of these was a brand fan argument about which system was going to be better: the Xbox One of the PlayStation 4. I submit it here for some thematically appropriate retro amusement. Consider this my Christmas gift to you, VGC. It's even got a Christmas setting.
