This year has been a busy year as far as gaming goes. So many big titles, it was inevitable for some games to be left out of the final list. Which game do you feel should have been nominated that wasn't?

For a reminder, these are the nominees for GOTY:

  • Alan Wake
  • Baldur's Gate
  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Super Mario Bros Wonder
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Which of these high profile games was the biggest snub?

Cocoon

Dead Space Remake

Diablo IV

Final Fantasy XVI

Hi-fi Rush

Hogwarts Legacy

Street Fighter 6

Starfield

The Talo Principle 2

other: explain in thread

I feel like the list we got is fine. I do think they could easily have gotten together like 10 nominees this year, but I think the 6 that was chosen are fair.

Turbo Overkill has a 91 on Metacritic, higher than Spiderman or Alan Wake, and is generally regarded as one of the best games in its genre, but as boomer shooters are a pretty niche thing, it's been totally overlooked, even in the indie category.

From the list provided, I'll go with Hogwarts Legacy. It's a love letter to the source material and fans will be in heaven.

Yeah. Both of the games I’ve played from their list are definitely deserving of the nomination but I have seen so many articles complaining about what was and wasn’t included, which I get. I want people to approach this as if there were 7 nominees instead of 6 and not as a replacement of any of the 6 other titles.

Even making this list was difficult because there are so many other options I could have added (Dave the Diver, Forza Motorsport, and Lies of Pi to name a few)

Fair list. Something like FF isn't GotT material

The Talos Principle II and Hi-Fi Rush are the only games I've played from the list and in my eyes the former is worthy.

Within the genre of Puzzle games it's not just the best one we've seen this year, it's basicly once-a-generation level. Probably the best one since the original Talos Principle in 2014. It's not my overall GotY, but I'm fairly certain if I played every game from this year it would still stand in my top 5.

Well, FFXVI is my GotY so that one I suppose. In terms of other categories, Octopath Traveler II should have gotten a nomination for best score, and won it as well as far as I'm concerned. Sea of Stars is another game that has an excellent score that should have been nominated in the category.

The nominees for GOTY are fine imo, perhaps the dead space remake could have gotten in.

Final Fantasy XVI and Hogwarts for sure.
