Forums - Nintendo - Thoughts on the Nintendo Direct?

I give it about a 2/10. Pretty boring. Disappointed Pikmin 1 and 2 aren't getting treated like Metroid Prime Remastered.

I'm sure MK9 will be a launch title for next gen, or at least come out within a few weeks of launch. Nothing else would make sense. Probably 3D Mario and Prime 4 on launch day, MK9 a month later. Probably something like that (if indeed Prime 4 has been moved off the Switch and to next gen which is sorta seems like at this point).

To Soundwave:

Not sure if we'll see cross-gen titles. We got cross gen GC/Wii and WiiU/Switch but those systems were spec'd fairly similarly so those zelda cross gen games could just be ports. To do a cross gen game between Switch and next gen obviously gamers would want a complete graphics overhaul for the next gen version. Makes cross gen games seem less likely. Especially for something like Prime 4 where you want top notch graphics. I don't really see Nintendo building two completely separate graphical versions of Prime 4 (or any game) in order to make it cross gen.

So I don't expect any cross gen games. I think Prime 4 will either be the last big AAA Switch game, or much more likely a launch game on Switch 2 and that is probably the reason it still hasn't come out yet, or even announced anything about it yet, because at some point they switched over from making a Switch game to making a next gen game.

And considering Metroid games don't sell that well anyway, it's not like missing out on the Switch userbase would be devastating for the game. It's not like 10 million people are gonna buy it on Switch haha. And being one of the few major AAA Nintendo games available on the next gen system in the first year will give it plenty of focus for gamers to pick it up. Maybe Nintendo surprises and does two completely different graphical builds for the game so that it can be cross gen, but I doubt it. Also having it on Switch 2 only just gives people (well, at least the few million, or couple million, Metroid fans) more of a reason to buy the new system.

There's no way that Prime 4 won't release on Switch, they promised it was going to release for Switch way back in 2017 and there may have been a good portion of people who purchased a Switch primarily for Metroid Prime 4, people would be pissed if they were promised for around 7 years that prime 4 was coming to Switch just for them to switch it over to Switch 2 exclusively. Nintendo has never done that in their history where they publically announced a game for a platform just for them to not bring it.

Nintendo could've easily just made Zelda BOTW exclusive to Switch since it was clear the Wii U was going to be a failure and it would be better to just use the game to convince people to exclusively get it on Switch, but they didn't because they didn't want to piss of Wii U owners who purchased the system just for that game and they likely already finished a ton of development for Wii U to the point where they didn't want to drop it completely.

Same goes for Prime 4, Retro definetely begun development with this game with the Switch in mind first since it was still promised it was coming to Switch in 2019, even if they wanted to switch development to Switch 2, it wouldn't make sense to drop all the work you did on the Switch version.

Plans change. Especially since they only showed a logo, it would have been kind of silly to buy a Switch primarily to play Metroid Prime 4.

Prime 4 will be a cross-gen release is what I'd guess. It will have better graphics and maybe something like a "cheap VR" (an extension of their Labo VR concept) mode on Switch 2 only but it will have the 100+ million Switch 1 userbase to help sales along. 2024 release.

If it was a Switch only game, why not at least show it today, they did show Luigi's Mansion 2 remaster and that Peach platformer as 2024 games, so it's not like they couldn't have shown a few seconds on MP4. My guess is they don't want to because it's a cross platform game.

I think with the Super Mario RPG remake alone Nintendo would pretty much have won E3 this year.

Mario Wonder is the trippiest Mario since "Touch Fuzzy Get Dizzy" (Or Lustiges Sporen Drama", as it is known in the German version) in SMW2:YS.

Finally a new DQ Monsters title! Been waiting since Monsters Joker 2 on the DS...

I thought it was fantastic. Finally a 2D Mario I can get excited about again. The design so far doesn't quite reach Donkey Kong levels, but it is miles and miles better than the 'New' series. The world looks a lot more dynamic and, as is the case with pretty much all Nintendo trailers, the first one shows very little of the entire game.
With Mario at the height of his popularity, I have a feeling this game is going to be the fastest selling switch title to date.

Super Mario RPG looks great as well, hopefully it sells enough to finally continue the series.

It was nice to see Dragon Quest Warriors. I randomly bought Dragon Warrior Monsters for the GameBoy Colour when I was a kid and always thought it had way better mechanics. Saw a few reactions and was surprised no one seems to remember that game.

One of the better directs.

One of the better one's I remember seeing! They definitely catered to my tastes here, between the brand new 2D Mario and Sonic platformers, Mario RPG remake (OMG!), Warioware, and Dragon Quest Monster. Mythforce looks like it could be a cool sleeper too. My Nintendo/Switch hype was pretty much at an all-time low but this reignited my interest somewhat.

It was amazing...

Switch!!!

It was pretty good, we got both Super Mario RPG and Super Mario LSD. Also Peach game, and Luigi's Mansion 2 escapes its 3DS coffin. Mario fans are feasting RN

Didn't care for any of the games except 2d mario but that looked underwhelming. Really wanted hand drawn mario on a more focused single player plaformer but oh well everyone seems to love it.

I don't get the hype for remakes unless they are like residential evil 2 or 4 remakes where the gameplay is revamped  don't really care for dated games like mgs and or mario where you can replay them anywhere
