Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu Sales: Week 18+19, 2023 (Apr 24 - May 07)

Excellent Switch numbers. Still plenty of demand for the system in spite of its age. TOTK should give another nice boost.

Switch scores 26/30 software spots for the week ending April 30th, and 25/30 for the week ending May 7th.

That's really bad PS5 numbers. Let's just hope it's stock issue and it can pick up again to 80-90k weekly

These are not bad numbers at all. For a Playstation system in Japan they're actually really good.

Sony doesn't have as much brand power in Japan compared to the West, it only seems underwhelming cos they're dominating everywhere else at the moment.

Switch now above 2019 sales and will stay there for several more weeks.

months

It would be crazy if 2023 kept its lead until the week Switch Lite released (week 38).

Finally some decent golden week hardware numbers, though I assume this is more for Zelda launching than it actually being golden week.
PS5 still supply constrained, What with Zelda launching and PS5's stock issues I don't think we will start to see the PS5 outselling the Switch until July

PS5 has not been supply constrained for months. Which is why it is going to surpass its total hardware sales that it had last year in mid May.

Surely there was stock issues during those 2 weeks when resident evil 4 remake released it was selling 34-37k. Then it got to around 45-50k for a month or 2 now without any new games releasing

If there is stock issues in Japan then I can only assume 1 of 2 scenarios

1, Sony just doesn't really care about it's Japanese customers, and they are allocating more systems to the west

Or 2, Sony is creating artificial demand for the system

I wonder if the Mario movie release in Japan created a slight bump in sales

Well you had the Mario discount on Mario games to promote the movie, so probably

For Japan, they've shipped more in one quarter than they in the history of any playstation system. But we already know that they care more about wester console purchases since they translate into more overall engagement/income.

The mario movie has been doing crazy numbers in Japan. Maybe that's had an impact

So funnily enough while Mario Kart wast the top seller over the 2 week period it didn't actually place #1 for either individual week.
