You're not "sending them money through different means". You're showing interest in a product that they're ending because they think there is not enough interest.
The alternative is that you prove them right in showing that there's no interest.

If SNY truly doesn't care about these customers anymore, then they're just going to think they're stupid for continuing to support PS. If SNY has just made a mistake, then by having physical customers continuing to act as if it's just business as usual, will likely make SNY assume that you'll switch over to digital only on PS6 when the time comes. Neither of those outcomes are acceptable.
The only answer that gives PS (physical) gamers a shot is to boycott in some fashion. You have to make SNY and it's investors see and understand that you won't accept it and won't put up with it. If SNY loses money, especially focused on physical copies now, while also being bombarded with the same type of backlash they've been sending SNY's way recently, then the message will get received and understood by them.
Give us, the (physical) consumer, what we want, which isn't really asking for much in this case, or you'll get nothing from us going forward.
I can only assume SNY would be smart enough to realize this also very likely means a PS6 boycott, and that's not something they're likely going to be willing to accept. That's going to almost certainly lead to a weak launch (year), and that makes a successful gen much more difficult to pull off. SNY would be putting themselves in another PS3 type scenario, or similar, and unless they've truly gone full retard, they'll do what they need to, to make sure PS6 has a successful launch, even if that means backtracking on their physical media discontinuation to some degree.

You're sending Sony a message that could be interpreted 11 different ways.
If people don't buy Wolverine, the take away could be maybe they're sick of super hero games, or maybe they don't like Wolverine for some specific reason.
Buying physical copies, shows that you have an interest in physical copies.
If they have a really great year on the back of physical media, and then the next year they lose a hundreds of millions because people aren't buying games any more, that sends a better message than being flat because some people haven't bought any games in the past two years.
