You're not "sending them money through different means". You're showing interest in a product that they're ending because they think there is not enough interest.
The alternative is that you prove them right in showing that there's no interest.

You're sending Sony a message that could be interpreted 11 different ways.

If people don't buy Wolverine, the take away could be maybe they're sick of super hero games, or maybe they don't like Wolverine for some specific reason.

Buying physical copies, shows that you have an interest in physical copies.

If they have a really great year on the back of physical media, and then the next year they lose a hundreds of millions because people aren't buying games any more, that sends a better message than being flat because some people haven't bought any games in the past two years.

Ultimately do what makes you happy but I don't think we should be naïve about the situation.

Sony has seen the hype for Wolverine and they've seen the metrics, if it underperforms whilst there's a big backlash/movement against them & their releases, they're not going to come to a false conclusion, and even if they did, the game media and shareholders wouldn't.

Equally buying Physical won't send any kind of message which Sony doesn't already know. They already know there is a strong market for physical but they just expect the vast majority of their fan base is too loyal and dedicated to disengage form their products... Showing up day 1 to buy physical simply meets their narrative. They also fully expect with the end of physical media announced, that there will suddenly be a higher physical ratios due to scarcity and even scalpers.

If people are reclined to act, that is fine... but just don't think buying physical is sending them any kind of meaningful message. The best thing you can do is disengage from their products for the short term, to show that it's causing genuine harm with their most important fans. That's the last I will say on that topic .

I agree, again.

PS - 'Hey look, our digital Wolverine sales are within target, but nobody bought physical this time, that's odd...'

Also PS - 'Wow. People are still hammering us about physical, and their focusing on Wolverine especially for some odd reason...'

Also Also PS - 'Great news. We can solve all of our problems in one action. $999 for the PS6 handheld and $1499 for a digital only PS6 console ...'

SNY can't be this dumb, and if they are, then bring on PS3 part deux. LOL.

PS1   - ! - We must build a console that can alert our enemies.

PS2  - @- We must build a console that offers online living room gaming.

PS3   - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.

PS4   - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.

PRO  -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.

PS5   - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.

PRO  -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.

I think Sony can do a lot before the PS6 is unveiled to smooth over a lot of the outrage for the past couple of weeks.

Regional pricing, better refund policies, expanded PlayStation Store availability in many countries, confirming the PS6 has an optional disc drive, etc. Even having something like Microsoft's rumored disc to download program would be huge for the PS6 handheld. Overall though, this is where the market is headed, whether or not Sony has killed it off prematurely.

What are the odds that PS is going to wait to see what XB does?

Might as well get a feel for what people think about whatever moves XB makes before PS fully commits to their final direction. We know more about what PS isn't doing right now vs what they plan to do going forward (into next gen).

We might have to wait quite a while before we get the answers we're looking for.

Damn, FlexStrike won’t be launching alongside Tokon after all. Oh well. At least I got my current arcade stick to hold me over lol

I feel like Sony doesn't really see Xbox as a threat anymore lol. Nowadays they view them as another third party partner.

And you can't really blame them after Xbox sales in the past couple of years.

Letting their guard down would seem like the perfect opportunity for MS to get their foot back in the door, assuming XB can put together something special and or worthy next gen.

XB is continuing to implode. I'm sure Sony will be fine.

Or more likely:
"Hey look Wolverine was 90% digital, pretty much what we expected based on trends. Our fanbase has moved onto digital platforms. Should we even wait till 2028?"

vs

"Hey look Wolverine was only 50% digital, are we really going to want to drop physical media?"

Sony is convinced that the people hammering them about physical media are a vocal minority.

And you say that Sony can't be that dumb, and yet they've done so many dumb things.

You have Shuhei talking about how they think Horizon might fail, because they think gamers aren't ready for woman protagonists.

If physical buyers simply keep buying physical, knowing it's going away, that's going to make SNY assume more so that those buyers will mostly transition when the time comes. SNY will very likely think to themselves, 'they know physical is going away, yet they clearly want the content on the disc because they keep purchasing, so they'll likely cave and buy the content digitally come 2028.'

But what if that doesn't happen come 2028, and instead sales drop (considerably) because (physical) gamers stand their ground? All the while SNY has taken step after step towards ditching physical completely, like what they've done with their disc manufacturing plant and employees recently. SNY won't just be able to turn it all around instantly and have shelves full of discs again in no time.

Why wait to go through all the trouble and pain of that for both SNY and (physical) gamers when those same gamers, could boycott physical media going forward and make it crystal clear to SNY that no disc means no buy, period. That's a message that SNY cannot be dumb enough to mistake, and again, if they are somehow that dumb, then PS gamers en masse might as well abandon ship now before it completely submerges.

Your point about the "vocal minority" is exactly why a boycott or something like it seems necessary. The vocal social uproar doesn't seem to be enough to get SNY to pay attention and make the right move by (partially) backtracking. However, when the quarterly report happens and PS total software sales are down (considerably), due to a major decrease in physical software sales, investors will see that SNY is wrong and their stock will fall. Then they will definitely get the message. It's only logical that SNY would (partially) backtrack at that point, but if they didn't, again, time to jump ship because if they don't care what the gamers want then why would you wanna game in their PS ecosystem?

With the PS3 store closing I imagine physical games will go up in price. Probably best to start getting in those physical purchases before hand. I also learned today that Folklore has no digital version period. One game I’ve always wanted to play but £100+ is way too high to stomach… 🤔 with my own money.
