I know plenty of people who today, don't want or like the 'new thing' that exists. They prefer the old vehicles, flip phones, etc. Many new things to them are extra's if anything.
A bunch of my friends kids are buying CD's these days. If I'm ever driving us anywhere they get bummed out because the CD player in my vehicle doesn't work anymore but my aux does work so we always plug in a phone instead for music. If that wasn't an option, I'd just fix or replace my CD player.
My parents and a few of my friends still have our Plasma TV's because the only thing worth replacing them with is OLED and those are way too expensive.
All of my gaming friends still have PS4's. except for 1 who got a used PS5. Some of them are looking to get XBSS just so they can play GTAVI.
If your point is that in say 25 years, when everyone is a renter to a few elites who control the worlds AI and robots, and everyone lives terribly because they're basically all slaves due to lack of ownership, that everyone should just be ok with it because the majority just all went along with it?
Maybe that makes sense to you but to me that's insanity.

What you're describing is also called being in the minority. If you take Plasma's for example, the market much preferred LCDs as a whole, there was no consipiracy to make LCD defeat it. They were just slimmer, sharper, more durable and often cheaper. Some things are genuinely unwanted and forced on consumers in app updates or sudden policy changes but that's really not what we're talking about here with the digital direction of things
If the market showed a strong shift to physical, sony would not be comfortable making this decision they made, but they can see on their forecasts that by the time PS6 arrives, physical sales would be less than 1/10 of most games. Of that 1/10, half probably don't mind digital, so you're left with 0.5 who do... Why not sacrifice that 0.5 and increase revenue? This is not me defending the decision, just explaining that we have to get real about forces that enable it. People's preferences have led here.
You gave the example of CDs and this is something I referenced with novelty coming back into play. As opposed to their being a conspiracy to stop us having physical media the market simply responded in pushing more emphasis on Vinyl collections and variants with new music releases, new cassets being printed for the first time in forever. For a long time production was struggling to keep up with demand with new methods being created to speed up production and new plants being created.
"From January-May this year, Key Production’s vinyl manufactured orders grew by 50%, compared to the same period in 2024. Data shows that the average order quantity of vinyl has increased by 41% per individual order. Key Production provides manufacturing services primarily to the independent sector meaning that this data shows that vinyl consumption growth is not limited to and goes beyond the major label big releases."
The point is the market responds to consumer interests and we won't make progress with the topic if we pretend that the majority of consumers aren't interested in the convenience and abundance that comes from streaming/digital media etc. Now I don't think you're crazy, obviously Nvidia shareholders would much prefer us locked into forever streaming contracts versus one and done purchases but the convergence towards digital is inevitable because it is simply what the people desire. Around it there are valuable discussions to be had, including rights & keeping physical alive even if it is a niche.

I don't know anybody who prefers their newer LED LCD picture or speakers over my Plasma. My Plasma is 14 years old and still works. It was also quite cheap when I bought it as Plasma costs had been reduced considerably over the years. Like LCD territory cheap. They stopped making Plasma Tv's around 2015 and they don't make most parts for them anymore either.
I'm not saying people have no power to stop what some groups are pushing. I'm just saying those groups are doing a very good job of getting the herd to go where they want. That doesn't mean some of them don't stray and are very difficult to round up.
The point is like your Nvidia reference. There's a direction groups are all heading and they want everyone to follow, and to the benefit of the few in the group, more and more.
I'm not really disagreeing with your points. I'm disagreeing with the intention behind it all and the supposed understanding everyone has about where this eventually leads.
