There's still about a quarter to a fifth of the software market being purchased physically. That's a sizable minority. The correct path here is screw the minority and force them to comply or leave them behind? Screw making as many lives better and happier as possible and instead milk the wealthy for higher profits by offering less value and less freedom?

Renting clothes is a thing. More so for woman, obviously, but it's been going on for quite some time.

Being Canadian, our most recent P.M. is an elite member of the WEF. Right now in Canada housing is out of control in just about every way. We're even dealing with major property rights issues in the Country. Not surprising since our last P.M. was a lower tier WEF member.

The problem here is what about everyone who doesn't want to rent? You really think once they've transitioned most everything to rentals that they're just going to leave the ownership class alone? You think the ownership class is going to be able to stop them at that point, when they finally move to squeeze owners out and into renting along with everyone else?

This isn't only happening or only a problem here, because they've been working towards this globally for quite some time.

There's a reason DJT gave a speech to the WEF and told them to leave America alone. Same reason why DJT is giving Canada such a hard time.

Consumers didn't ask for DVD or Bluray. They didn't ask for HD or 4k. They didn't ask for self driving cars or vehicle entertainment subscriptions.

The industry thought these things up and offered them. The majority either followed suit, or the industry pushed hard enough that they created enough inconvenience with the old way, that the new way became more convenient, to the point of no longer offering the old stuff so you have to buy the new stuff.

It's absolutely happening. It's just been going on long enough that it's becoming the 'new normal', so many don't realize it.

I'm sorry but this a bad take. As far the core logic goes you literally wouldn't have music, films, games or sports if you first needed consumers to "invent" the thing that they go on to consume. In real terms the "industry" you're referring to is actually just creators, and they go on to find audiences for the things they create. If it is not wanted then there is no audience and it fails (see any technological or artistic flop like Apple Vision Pro or Virtual Boy etc). If we defer to only what we individually create then why not just go back to being hunter gatherers lol... And nothing of apparent value will be lost because these creations which you're claiming are just pushed from "industry" shouldn't exist in the first place

As far as these things not being wanted, its simply false. If you went to the 90s and told someone who had to manually carry individual music CDs around with them a backpack, that they could instead have 1000s of songs in a device that fits in their pocket, they would jump at the chance. If you told someone their brick of a CTR could be made into a slim line screen twice as big and a fraction of the weight, they would swap it in a heartbeat.

There is an argument in specific instances about regulations or monopolies restricting access/limiting delivery methods of certain experiences but we're really not dealing with that in these cases. No one made people give up physical CDs for their Ipods. No one made people abandon their ipods once they had their smart phones. Spotify did not make people abandon their itunes. You have to be honest and reflective about human behaviour otherwise you're to have a very warped perception of the truth.

If you want to revert the direction of things you're going to have to change the minds & attitudes of people, not the corporations.

I know plenty of people who today, don't want or like the 'new thing' that exists. They prefer the old vehicles, flip phones, etc. Many new things to them are extra's if anything.

A bunch of my friends kids are buying CD's these days. If I'm ever driving us anywhere they get bummed out because the CD player in my vehicle doesn't work anymore but my aux does work so we always plug in a phone instead for music. If that wasn't an option, I'd just fix or replace my CD player.

My parents and a few of my friends still have our Plasma TV's because the only thing worth replacing them with is OLED and those are way too expensive.

All of my gaming friends still have PS4's. except for 1 who got a used PS5. Some of them are looking to get XBSS just so they can play GTAVI.

If your point is that in say 25 years, when everyone is a renter to a few elites who control the worlds AI and robots, and everyone lives terribly because they're basically all slaves due to lack of ownership, that everyone should just be ok with it because the majority just all went along with it?

Maybe that makes sense to you but to me that's insanity.

Seeing investors reacting possitively in the 2020s usually points me to think it was an anticonsumer decision, lol.

I'm curious if Sony actually does take a step back. I still think GTA6 fever is going to make this all feel pointless.

But I'm ok waiting to see how Sony introduces the PS6 and what their plans are for their digital only future.

Depends on how GTAVI is received. If it's mid or worse, it will make this whole digital only situation much worse for SNY. If it's good enough or better, then SNY can probably get away with it mostly unscathed.

Dude if the best way to follow the conversation is "yeah but they are going to take everything you own anyway" then there's no point in having the conversation to begin with lol.
