It's pretty well known that human beings don't like change. I've seen hundreds of comments online about how XXXXX person has been with PlayStation since the 90s or 2000s, and they've always purchased physical. Those are mainly the ones who are upset.
So it's mainly a very vocal, albeit older, minority. Whereas the current gaming generation, who may have started gaming late in the PS3 gen or early PS4, is used to digital, and that demographic is only growing. It was bad enough seeing statistics that something around half of the console playerbase are almost exclusively playing live-service games. Leaving a much smaller playerbase for traditional games that also happen to cost substantially more, and longer, to make than they used to.
