if it continues at this rate of 90k until the end of the year the ps5 could have a great year in Japan maybe even reaching 5 million units sold

Definitely not going to happen PS2's best ever year in Japan was 3.7m. These 90k weeks are great but it's definitely not going to be the norm going forwards, it's an influx of sales now stock is becoming readily available. If it manages to stay above 30k/week after this bump ends that will be a good result for the PS5.

PS4's peak year in Japan was 1.8m.

Hope PS4 and Switch releases increase the sales

It probably sold really well digitally. 

So the demand is definitely there and the PS5 is a desirable console in the Japanese market.

I wonder where the baseline will settle after this unexpected surge.

Sony sure do want to hit their shipment targets for this quarter/fiscal year.

PS5 YTD about to pass Xbox Series lifetime sales.

The YOY growth for PS5 (and PS4) is astounding.

I wonder if there is enough juice in the tank for PS5 to pass Switch YTD sales at least temporarily?

I assume that Hogwarts Legacy sold through all of its stock. This isn't gonna last but damn it's impressive how close the PS5 is to the Switch now YTD. At this rate it's gonna do over 2m this year and surpass the PS4's peak year. I think it's now ahead of the PS4 launch aligned though should fall behind again later. Switch is about 35% down so far so as expected a big drop is gonna happen here but it's still doing well.
