Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu Sales: Week 52, 2022 (19 Dec - 25 Dec)

The Switch did really, really well this year and even a tad above my expectations since I thought if it surpassed 2019 it wouldn't be by this much. It is clearly slowing down now however and so a big decline next year seems inevitable with it probably ending up in the 3-3.5m range which would be fantastic for its age but 2022 will be the last really big year for it due to saturation starting to kick in.

The PS5 was doing poorly for most of the year being down compared to 2021 most of the time but ended strongly and just had two very good weeks in a row showing that demand is there for it so with stock issues finally being mostly over for it it should land in the 1.5-2m range for 2023 and keep up ok with the PS4 launch aligned that year.

And Xbox Series is doing amazing compared to the Xbox One but is still behind the 360 and original Xbox but could maybe still surpass the latter down the line if this holiday season doesn't mean its sales have permanently slowed down a ton.

The general consensus seems to be that underneath the performance and graphical issues it is actually one of the best entries in the series.

Consesus of who? Critics seems to rank the game as the worst mainline entry

The reviews I read when it came out said its a great pokemon game that's just hampered by the performance and graphical issues. So I agree it seems the consensus for the most part has been that it is a very good pokemon game, they just need to fix the bugs.

Momotaro breaking back into the top ten.

Japan really likes Nintendo games huh.

That said, Momotaro never ceases to amaze, perhaps the breakout third party hit of the Switch generation in Japan. MH Rise and Minecraft did great too but those are kinda expected.

Imagine in 2017 if you told anyone one of the biggest 3rd party release for the Switch would be an only Japan Konami game ...

Aside from this unusual fact, the Nintendo software exploded as always on the Christmas week !
I'm gonna guess Kirby isn't far from the Top 10 with close to 20K sold meaning it'll get ever closer to the million !

Let's just appreciate that Switch sold 4.8m in Japan this year and this Fall had by far the two biggest game launches in Japanese history... and some people want a successor system to come out next year asap haha

Ooh also Switch is only about 5.25m from DS's Japan sales record. By end of next year it should definitely be within 1.5m of the record. That record is going down!

I am seeing a lot of comments and rumors online that the low numbers of Xbox these past few months is because Famitsu knows it overtracked the Series consoles and is moving closer to Mediacreate going forward.
Some are even implying there’s some saturation happening as the Series S has been in stock all last week in Japan.
Anyone seeing anything similar?

Yes that is definitely true. You can see it with the PS4 too. They even got lazy and had the PS4 sell exactly the same as last week.

Even the Switch could be experiencing it now, with a very strange acting Q4, after strong Q1,Q2, and Q3.

But we shall never know the true adjustments.

The Switch version of FF7 Crisis Core has pretty much caught up to the other versions. It could very well end up ahead of them. Cool!

Now Squarenix can release that cell phone FF7 remake version on the Switch and make millions in profits. That version looks so cool!!
