Just saw this as a promoted ad tweet on X. Nice job by Xbox releasing some marketing aimed squarely at me and many of my other fellow millennials who read Animorphs when we were kids. I not only read Animorphs when I was a kid, I also played RTS games like Age of Empires 2, Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, and Stronghold: Crusader, so it's pretty clever honestly.

Flight Simulator 24 is blowing my fucking mind and Flight Sim 2020 already blew my mind. Flight Sim 2020 was already one of the most technically impressive games ever and I'm pretty confident in saying Flight Sim 24 will be the most technically impressive game of this generation by a mile.

Flight simulator might not be much gamey game (I flew once over my house and deinstalled to make space), but I am endlessly impressed as a programmer. And to be sure: some people will derive a lot of fun of the flight simulation aspect and play it as a game, it is just not me. But to the technical aspect: gaming forums tend to break out in excitement over some more pixels or an effect and I am usually underimpressed, as I know how it works and usually it is just more of the same, which is boring. But what Asbobo achieved with Flight Simulator is akin to magic. I have no idea how they do it. No other game does something similar. No game general game engine supports them. The scale is the whole world which blows my mind.

Well, I suppose it's a good thing that Microsoft didn't get too deeply involved with them, Lol.

I wonder if all the people who called Microsoft clueless dumbasses for not putting a ring on their finger are going to apologize. They will probably pretend they don't remember saying it or even deny saying it.

Can you elaborate on it?

Are you saying I should apologize? Well first of all I did not call them dumbasses;...I maybe used Clueless tho,

But yeah I should apologize for Sony investing/parnering with a company that made one of the biggest hits of the year(even acknowledged by Sarah and Phil)? Because Nintendo is having a case against them that could have destructive consequences for other games if Nintendo wins?  Again can you elaborate on it?

I find that kind of rhetoric in this thread very appaling especially when MS invested/Acquired Activision/Blizzard that got sued and still had lawsuits open for horrible conduct.

Honestly MS game studios may apoligize for

-Investing 3-5 years in the Japanese/east gaming market but hoping the same kind of result Sony have who at that time invested +-15 years (now +30 years) in the East/Japanese gaming market....

-Apoligize for creating the narrative that xbox then is not selling well in Japan and it must be because they hate xbox (clearly whole the world is now hating Xbox)

-Apoligize for Creating the narrative that Japan doens't matter while your most well received game by critics and fans for 2023 is Hi Fi Rush made in Japan and U choose to close down, and lets not forget that Palworld again a Japanese game is the biggest hit on xbox for 2024(so far).

Ideally yeah but don't know if it would made more money if it was multiplatform, FFXVI numbers aren't that great on steam (yet maybe) and exclusivity can sell a game aswell..

I also find it kind of Ironic to read about building a fanbase in the XBOX thread, if their is something that Xbox isn't doing then it is building a fanbase...

I think the late release hurt both FF7R and FF16 on Steam personally. FF7R came a year and a half late at a price of $70, Steam gamers saw that price and said heck no. Even now, 2.25 years after it released on Steam for $70, FF7R has yet to drop lower than $35 in any Steam sale. As a result, FF7R has sold less than 1m copies on Steam according to Steam Spy and another 3rd party Steam sales estimator.

Square did at least learn their lesson on pricing, as FF16 came in at $50, $20 less than FF7R, and so far peak concurrent players are nearly double FF7R (and it's not the weekend yet where the true peak on FF16 may be). But even with the lower price I think the 1 year late release hurt sales for FF16 on Steam most likely, compared to what it would have sold Summer 2023 when hype was high.

In the end though, I think Square needs to get their budgets under control, it was reported that FF7R Part 1 had a budget of $140m, with FF7R Part 2 and FF16 both likely exceeding that figure. Clearly they need to find ways to cut the budget on their games, considering that FF7R and FF16 both sold over 3m first week at full price (with FF7R currently tracking toward 10m lifetime considering the 7m figure they gave in 2023, and the fact that both an Xbox and Switch 2 release for the game are still to come most likely), and still Square finds the sales of these games disappointing. Clearly they want Final Fantasy to have sales like Skyrim and Witcher or something, and I'm just not sure the series could ever have the mainsteam appeal needed to reach those numbers.

Thanks for the serious response,

I can not really say much about FFR but I may about FFXVI...

-FFXVI did open with 3 million first week, when it was announced people in general said 'those are great sales' untill SE said 'Below expectations' and people jumped on it 'We told you so, it is dumb to not release on all platforms same day, so many sales lost!!'

I don't agree with it, their is no proof obviously,  but exclusivity may boost a game sales and during that I made pics in stores for this thread and FFXVI was heavily bundled those bundles also account for sales.

I had no expectations for the sales on steam but I can't really call them great, seems rather meh and using the defense 'but it is an old port' while Palworld if it releases on PS may sell again extremely well(well can go both ways).

Majority of FFXVI will sell in third party stores where it will be cheaper like GMG and Humble - these numbers dont count towards Steam's selling charts. I wonder how the concurrent player count will be like during the weekend, same with God of War Ragnarok.

Releasing a game late will do that to you as well.

Clearly exclusivity doesnt sell like it used to at least for Square Enix since both FFXVI and FFVIIRebirth failed to meet expectations on the PS5.

I can elaborate on your first sentence.  The rest of the marked out stuff is just your usual bashing of Xbox.

As far as you are concerned, if you were one of the ones saying that you knew better to how to run their business than the ones at Xbox that make the decisions, then the shoe fits.

My comment was meant more as a generalized statement that included all the youtuber's videos (many Xbox people), comments on X, comments in Palworld related articles, and the giant "What the F is Xbox doing train".  But it was funny that you thought it was about you as a single individual.

I have no issues with addressing you directly, and will do so to avoid confusing you.  With the term "dumbasses" that I chose to use, it was also generalized.  The management at Xbox have been called countless names, I could of picked clueless fucks, morons, pricks, cocksuckers, dipshits, assholes, ect, ect, ect, but just happened to choose that one.

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

I feel like Xbox marketed Palworld more than Sony marketed stuff like Baldur's Gate 3 but Xbox fans are never satisfied and I know what Droid is talking about where some Xbox fans were like "Why hasn't Microsoft acquired Pocketpair? Are they stupid?" Lol. Guess who Nintendo would be suing right now if Microsoft owned Pocketpair? That's right, Microsoft.

And saying that doesn't defend Nintendo's decision, I hate that the lawsuit is around patents, I think patents suck and are a negative impact to progression but the fact is a patent lawsuit is a lot easier than a copyright lawsuit and Nintendo is almost certainly going to win this. Nintendo has one of the best legal teams in the world and have been preparing for months. Can't see this going anywhere other than a settlement in Nintendo's favour or Pocketpair being crushed by legal fees.

So yes it turns out that Microsoft not acquiring Pocketpair was a huge dodged bullet.
