A weird inclusion to be sure but its gotta be here for me cuz it might be the absolute best party game. A fantastic series that includes little minigames that are a blast with decent-sized groups that you're friendly with. I've spend upwards of 100 hours playing these games with all different groups and its always such a good time. Comedy games like Quiplash, drawing games like Champ'd Up, trivia games like Trivia Murder Party, and everything in between means theres something for everybody and it needs a place on this list. 7 is my defacto first choice for the series because of Quiplash 3 and a genuinely all great set of 5 games, but it's hard to go wrong with any of them

- There’s more toilets this time round…
- …and a lot less variation when playing from the alternative perspective.
- The stalker is now more attentive and persistent…
- ...although he loses the element of surprise by making so much damn noise...
- ...and I’m not sure I can take him seriously with that little hat of his.

- Many who have played this will surely have experienced heartbreak in the engine room.
- One of the heroes here first featured in another game in a different genre. The other makes their gaming debut here.
- Our heroes show they can play their namesake instruments...
- ...although we never get to use that skill during gameplay, unlike the playable characters of a similar game on the same console made by the same developer.

#23
- You can trust those little simians in the opening level, but after that they’re going to start attacking you.
- You visit five different locations in this game. The first and last are preset - you get to choose which order you visit the middle three in.
- The console version was less forgiving due to a different save system, and being unable to adjust the brightness of the visuals.
- Introduces new moves such as sprinting and crawling.

#22
- Wow, those birds are well armed and have serious bank.
- Don’t go shooting that large body of water - you’ll regret it.

#21
- Not sure how all those birds have survived so long, seeing as water damages them.
- If you beat 7 lots of 7, you’ll experience heavy flooding

#20
- One hell of a first day on the job for one of the playable characters.

Alright so number 24 went unguessed this time but I can reveal now that the skeleton with great boss music was in fact from Undertale. We're past the halfway mark now so here's some words about my 25-21:

Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors

999 was the beginning of the Zero Escape series and I think it’s one of relatively few cases where I consider the first game in a series the best. The combination of a complex and intriguing story told in visual novel format and several escape rooms full of unique puzzles definitely struck a chord with me from the get go. One of the really interesting things about the series, which is particularly prevalent in the first game, is how the puzzles and things you encounter in each escape room will often lead to interesting anecdotes from the other characters and how the puzzles themselves will often take root in real elements from various sciences. I don’t know if I can say a ton more about this game without getting into spoiler territory, but I will say that it has one particular twist that I consider one of the best in any game ever.

Undertale

Like the Mother games that inspired it, Undertale manages to combine a wacky world and wacky characters with some really powerful and emotional moments in a way that somehow fits; but it also does more than that. It’s quite original turn-based “combat” system (which also allows you not to fight) works really well by moving all the focus onto the enemy’s turn where you have to actively dodge their attacks, which to me makes the things more engaging. This combined with unique dialogue makes the fights more different from enemy to enemy than is often the case in turn-based games and even more so when it comes to the boss fights. And what boss fights they are! With excellent music for pretty much each one and some of them feeling like absolutely epic showdowns. Finally, the 3 different paths you can go down are also brilliantly implemented and worth experiencing all three, even if one of them can indeed lead to a bad time.

NEW

Deltarune

And here we have the successor in the making and probably the best new game I’ve played in the last year. As of currently this and Undertale are so neck and neck for me that they might as well share a spot, but when forced to choose I’m putting Deltarune on top. They each have their strengths and weaknesses when put side by side: Deltarune has funnier writing in my opinion, which is saying something, and the greatly expanded combat is very welcome and adds some strategy to what was mostly a question of skill in Undertale. On the other hand, while Deltarune certainly has had some powerful moments like its predecessor, it hasn’t quite reached the same levels as the final showdowns and ending of Undertale yet, though there’s still plenty of time for that in the future with the game only having 2 out of 7 chapters completed. In short, Deltarune is already an amazing game now and has the potential to climb even further up this list if future chapters deliver. I’m certainly crossing my fingers.

Super Mario Galaxy

I had the great pleasure of replaying Super Mario Galaxy this year for the first time in a looong time and yeah, it’s still amazing. It might not have the openness of 64 or Odyssey (#27) but it makes up for it with excellently designed and highly varied levels. It’s also just one of the most charming and pleasant games to sit down and play out there and little elements such as the hub and Rosalina’s story book are really the icing on the cake. It wouldn’t call it a completely perfect game, but it’s not hard to see why both critics and players fell in love with it back in 2007.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask

As much as I love Ocarina of Time (#33), its sequel has always outshined it a bit in my eyes. First of all, I loved the masks and what they added to the gameplay particularly the Goron and Zora ones, then there’s the pretty in-depth side quests some with great stories of their own. The main story is also one of the best of the series in my opinion and Skull Kid might be the only one-time “villain” that I actually like as much as Ganon/Ganondorf. Whether it’s dream or reality it’s certainly one of my favorite journeys with Link.

Yes to both.

The heartbreak in the engine room refers to Rusty Bucket Bay, which is a horrible level where the engine room is a nightmare. It can easily end your run for 100 notes.

Banjo got his start in Diddy Kong Racing.

They play the banjo and the kazoo in the intro. You never get to do that in game, but in Donkey Kong 64, the Kongs can play musical instruments.

In a way you can call the Deus Ex series "Transhumanism: The Game". I am not aware of any other game series, that has transhumanism so much as a core theme. And this theme is integrated with the gameplay, as your abilities are brought on by technical enhancements of your body. On the story side, the game explores the societal impact of the availability of technology that enables transhumanism. This all makes an very exciting package.

I played Human Revolution as the Director's Cut on WiiU, but it is available on many platforms. The gameplay is an mix of action adventure, shooter and stealth, with RPG-elements to advance your character. That works splendid.

One element of the game that makes it so great is the big amount of possible solutions to one problem. Problem: you want to enter the police headquarters. What are your options? Well, you can sweet talk the guy at the entrance to let you in. You can crawl through the ventilation shafts like the Alien. Or you can go into the police station with guns blazing, like the Terminator. Or you hack your way in, like a Shadowrunner. All options are valid and possible. This gives you as the player a lot of influence.

Your actions have consequences. That is made clear in the beginning, as the hostages die if you take too long. Or that oyur pilot dies, if you don't invest a lot effort to help her escape. This is all not influencing the story too much, but it feels impactful. Great work Eidos!

And it's not too long until 2027, the year the game is set.

Father and daughter have an epic fight using the same weapon.
A lot more children of your allies will join your ranks over time.
But first the parents have to fall in love.
This game was kinda resurrecting the series, that seemed in decline and since when we got multiple new entries, the next coming early next year.

#19: Guessed by UnderwaterFunktown: Baldur's Gate III
This game has a tumultous start with a living airship stealing people, getting attacked by dragonriders and switching dimensions, invluding a hellish one involving demons in the battle.
It is still unfinished, yet still deserving of the place. Hopefully we get the finished game in 2023.

#18: Guessed by Machina: The Secret of Monkey Island
Look behind you, a three headed monkey!

New hints, new games!

20 - Some Magic Potion here, some Magic Potion there.
Hint 2: And then the AI adds some legions here, and some legions there.
Hint 3: It won't stop you you from getting from your small village of indomitable people that still holds out against the invaders all the way to the Alps though.

19 - This game features a couple recorders that are originally from another game.
Hint 2: It even features the same tune and the same effect when you use one.

18 - As is rare for this series, the epic decisively dictates the end of the series antagonist, at least for one timeline. Guessed by Veknoid_Outcast - Twilight Princess (with a wrong hint)

17 - This game is technically a first person shooter, but because from one point on you'll only want to use a certain weapon it get to be more of a hack-and-slash.

16 - Seem like a fairly big game, especially for its time, but really it only needs to take up to 60 minutes.
