Forums - Gaming - Discussion Thread – The 13th Annual Greatest Games Event

50 - Probably the most out-of-left-field one on my list and the only game I'd argue is 'bad'. Dinosaurs and vore. Also it has an arcade version that's trash.
46 - Retro revival done right. It's not shovel knight but I think it's just as good, taking from a different set of NES and SNES games and styles.

Couple of guesses:

50 Primal Rage

46 Aggelos

So people, I've been thinking that I should find a way to participate on this thread this year. Given what my list is though, there's simply no point in trying to have people guess like what the next entries thereon will be. That's not an opinion, it's a matter of experiential fact. In past years, I've tried participating here on the Discussion Thread in the normal way, only to consistently have nobody guess anything successfully, and soon everybody just gives up on trying. That's been the pattern. Fact is that my favorite games are overwhelmingly indies, most of which it seems not so many people have even heard of before. So yeah, that's why I just post the whole list to the Official Thread right away anymore and haven't bothered with these Discussion Threads in recent years. No point in doing anything else, plus frankly I don't think anyone really cares about my preferences anyway. Not instinctively anyway. HOWEVER...I'm thinking maybe I can find a way to make you halfway care. The question is how.

I'm open to suggestions! I'm looking for some unconventional way to be a part of this Discussion Thread that might be of interest to you (anyone). Here are some ideas that I've had:

Idea 1: I could follow the Runa model from last year and explain why I love say my top five or top ten favorite games as much as I do at some length. I really enjoyed reading those posts and think I'd enjoy writing some similar ones of my own too, though I've not tried my hand with banners yet, so any version of this by me may wind up looking less fancy, unfortunately. (I hope I could figure banners out though, 'cause they just add a little something to the presentation.) That is if there's any demand.

Idea 2: Alternatively, I could add a second table to my one post in the Official Thread wherein I create additional lists of favorite stuff based on whatever people here request. I love making lists of my favorite stuff! It's a fun way to share a little more about myself. Want a list of my NEXT 50 favorite games? There's an option that can be requested! Want a list of my five favorite PlayStation 1 games by year of release? There's another option you can request! Actually, it's possible that I may just do that anyway because it sounds particularly fun. Anyway, want me to list the episodes of Serial Experiments Lain in order of my preference from favorite to least? There's yet another option! (Doesn't have to game-related, just whatever. Unless your request is like my favorite sex positions; then sorry. :P Use your common sense.) Want a list of my favorite characters in order from a game appearing in the top 10 on the Official Thread? There ya go! You get the idea. These are just hypotheticals. You have no idea how many of these types of lists I already have saved to Google Docs just because I enjoy making them and may already have ready to share. Yes, I'm that much of a dork.

Idea 3: Something else you can come up with.

Idea 4: I can leave and stop bothering you with stuff you're not the least bit curious about. :P

Any interest? Suggestions?

I also enjoy reading about why people pick x or y game and rank it so high, especially when it's not Final Fantasy Game #22 or Super Mario Game #54, so your first idea is good.

I was actually surprised by how many of the games on your list I recognise Jaicee; there are only a handful I've never heard of. Though that's maybe because I have to browse through so many games each year to compile GOTY lists (on that subject, I see Immortality and Norco made your list this year - they're indies currently on OpenCritic's wall of fame for 2022. When I first came across them I did wonder if they'd be on your GOTY list!). I'm most curious about your Uncharted pick - it's really high on your list, but it's the only Uncharted game you picked, and it's one of the Uncharted games people tend to forget even exists. I expect it's to do with the choice of protagonists, or maybe it's more than that; either way I'm interested in reading your thoughts on it.

LOL, don't you underestimate our curiosity.

Even though it is sometimes difficult to respond to a post (because I never heard of the game and cannot express any opinion of my own), I still like to read at least a few short sentences why people like the game they like. A game I know about might be more likely to elicit a response from me, as I may have an opinion on my own, but I still like to hear about the others, possibly even add them to the list of games I probably won't play because I haven't the time anyways.

So please bother us with stuff about your games, even if it may be frustrating to get no response. I understand that the guessing game might be difficult, but that is just a fun part of interaction that emerged from the community, not a necessity to participate. I like to read the blurbs people write to explain their games.

Adding an extra hint to 50 and moving on up:

50) On the surface it's the video game equivalent of a documentary,

about a group of tiny games made between 2008 and 2011

by the fictional game developer "Coda"

47) Memes about memes.

46) The nightmares' worst nightmare.

One was guessed yesterday, Duck Hunt, but the others weren't. Hopefully with these guesses someone gets at least #50 so I can post it. Also, a new hint for the next game.

50 - I've never understood the name of this game, because it doesn't seem to have much to do with the type of street this is named after.
Hint 2: Instead, if the box-art is to be believed, you're moving left to right in a pretty wide space.
Hint 3: Also, the box-art implies this game features a certain plumber flying in a capsule, while you can't really tell if that's actually the case in-game. Guessed by Mnementh - Alleyway
49 - This is what Judgement Day looks like.
Hint 2: At least in this game there's a defence for it.
Hint 3: Because lets just deflect the incoming nuclear missiles with our own. Guessed by Veknoid_Outcast - Missile Command

48 - Whack people with weapons such as barbells, arcade cabinets and tuna fish.
Hint 2: But there's also guns to be found. Not stuff that should've been on a cruise ship.
Hint 3: To be honest though, those weren't have been on the ship if the pirates and their one-eyed captain didn't bring them on board.

45 - Due to how technology works, you can't play this game on modern TV's. Guessed by Veknoid_Outcast - Duck Hunt

44 - About halfway through this game there's a racing level where you have to reach a well-known hero before the villains do, which is silly because in canon this hero is one of the most powerful people in the galaxy.

47 - Honestly, in terms of 2D Platformers this is honestly the pinnacle of its series in terms of level and world design even though most people seem to dislike it.

I'll be away for a lot of the next four days, so, guess I'll just drop the rest of the hints for these days. These should be on the easy side, I think.

Eh, guess they weren't that easy. I'm not really back yet but I can at least give some context to these hints.

The song in #48 plays during a rhythm mini-game, where you have to play the bass.

The one in #47 plays during the end credits and as far as I recall, it's the only licensed song in the game.
