Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch sales expectations for 2023

Unit sales (million) of Switch in 2023?

11M or less 7 5.83%

12M 3 2.50%

13M 3 2.50%

14M 4 3.33%

15M 19 15.83%

16M 15 12.50%

17M 20 16.67%

18M 27 22.50%

19M 6 5.00%

20M or more 16 13.33%

Total:120

Seems like most people are thinking around 17m for 2023 but what will determine if switch passes PS2 will be 2024, will switch have a relatively soft drop and decline from a hypothetical 17m to around 10m or will it do a DS and fall to 5m.

I voted 16 million. I think if they announce a Switch Pro it could definitely be higher, like 18-19 million, but if they announce a new console it could be 15 million.

Sorry, when I said "New Switch", I was thinking of a revision/mid-gen upgrade akin to the New 3DS. Not a full-on successor.

Please god no! The 8th gen Pro & X revisions made sense because they came out 3 and 4 years into their generation, to release a "Switch Pro" after 6 years would be nuts. This Pro ship has sailed, if Nintendo was going to do it they should have released it two years ago. Why not wait an extra year and have a true Successor with a generational leap in tech ready for 2024.

20+ million, cause why not go T-bone bold

18 million

To the people expecting a hardware revision, what kind of revision are you expecting? We've had Switch Lite and Switch OLED officially, on top of the unmarketed version that came before them with the improved battery life.

Are you expecting a Switch Pro/New Switch?

I don't expect any revision. But if Nintendo wants to bring something new, it's probably just an OLED model with new colors and possibly more internal storage, that's it.

I voted 17 million, but it could be a bit higher or lower. Sales for 2022 are likely to be around 21 million and I can see sales dropping 20% in 2023 compared to 2022. A question mark would be if Nintendo would drop the price of the Switch or not next year.

I could see Nintendo dropping the old model and lowering the price of the OLED to the original $300 price, but I don't expect much more than that.

With a price cut next Summer/Fall I see 18 million. Very possible there is no price cut though, but I doubt it would affect '23 sales by more than a million.

In 2024, if Switch 2 hits holiday '24, Switch does perhaps 10-11m (putting it at ~152m by end of 2024, inching its way past PS2 by end of life). If Switch 2 isn't until Spring 2025, so Switch gets the full holiday season, it probably does more like 14m putting it at 155m meaning it is passing PS2 by the time successor launches and ends up 160m+.

I really doubt there will be a price cut since they announced a price increase instead

It’s going to sell millions.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

It is coming for 140 by end of 2023

12 million.

Still a rival to be reckoned with and a huge force, but well past its peak. 2024 will be under 10 million, I'm thinking. Maybe even under 9 million.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 151 million (was 73, then 96, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million)

PS5: 115 million (was 105 million) Xbox Series S/X: 57 million (was 60 million, then 67 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)
