Great hold for the Switch
Great second week for Legends Arceus
Smash and MK8DX getting slight boosts, their power never ceases to amaze. Mario Party extremely stable.

The Direct confirmed Splatoon 3 for a summer release, so exactly in the timeframe where 2021 had its weakest performance. The chances for 2022 to be down less than 1 million units for the full year aren't bad. The games will be there, but a lot will also depend on how popular the OLED model proves to be.

Do you think switch sport can make a difference? I know a lot depends on how much switches are available; but i believe if the supply is there, switch can practically sell the same as last year.
03/10/09 HUGE day in my life:
I don’t think demand or popularity for the OLED model is an issue at all.
From what I’ve seen, Japan vastly prefers the higher end models of the Switch than the lower end. The main reason the Lite sold as well as it did in 2020 was because they were all out of the regular model and Japan desperately wanted to get their hands on Animal Crossing however they could.
Since then, with the chip shortages being a factor, they haven’t been able to sell nearly as much as they’d like. If they could produce 150k models a week with 75k OLED models, 50k regular models, and 25k Lite models, I think they’d sell through pretty much all of them with the only ones still on shelves being the Lite models.
The issue, like it has been for a while, is how much they are able to order, manufacture, and put on shelves.
If that weren’t an issue, last year would have sold much more than it did and this year would be higher as well.

Is Hardware Getting TOO Powerful?

PlayStation/Xbox/Switch: 2022 Edition
PlayStation/Xbox/Switch Hardware Battle: 2021 Edition!
PlayStation 4/Xbox One/Nintendo Switch: 2019 vs. 2020
PlayStation 4/Xbox One/Nintendo Switch: 2018 vs. 2019
PlayStation 4/Xbox One/Nintendo Switch: 2017 vs. 2018
PlayStation 4: 2015 vs. 2016 vs. 2017
Good hold for the Switch, PS5 is somehow still selling even without software, well a sale is a sale I guess.
Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Yeah you replied before I could add that caveat. I meant best week other than launch. |
Oh, yes then you're right. Hopefully they can keep up a higher baseline and this wasn't just an exception.
Xbox has really made strides in Japan this gen; seeing it above 5k still takes me aback as I'm so used to Xbone's abysmal performance.
Switch looking very healthy under the circumstances, now less than a million behind the lifetime sales of 3DS.
Why does Famitsu still count PS4? It's getting ridiculous :D
I mean people who buy a PS4 in Japan right now should be famous person in their region.
These weekly japanese threads are dy8ng down in activity. Guess its normal when you have one company dominate for so long.
We need Playstation to do better. Or maybe to do even worse so it can be in competition with Xbox in Japan.
Xbos Series is doing really good. Very far from those abysmal Xbox One numbers from last gen.

I always read the posts in this thread, but don't post too often. I really only add my two cents in a discussion if there's already a good deal of discourse already going on. I think you're right about something needing to happen apart from the large distance between each of the consoles if discussion were to really come alive. Hell, decent software sales for the PS5 would probably spark some interest.
