The biggest surprise is just that it sold so well. The second biggest surprise is how Nintendo was able to reinvent Zelda for the second time in its history and STILL create a masterpiece.

going to be boring here and just say BOTW. Been lots of pleasant surprises for Switch but if i'm honest i hadn't really been into Zelda pre-BOTW. However BOTW became 1 of my favourite games ever!

Switch success. After the WiiU, I just did not think it would happen to this degree. I always said a hybrid Nintendo console would be very successful, I just did not think that it would be THIS successful. Definitely a pleasent suprise to say the least.

I'll second that. Zelda was my favourite franchise but after Skyward Sword I honestly thought that was it for the franchise. BoTW took Zelda back to the top and is regarded as the most influential open world game of the past generation. 

Odyssey was a great surprise too. It was a long time since we got a great Mario game and Odyssey is at least upper tier.

Other than that, probably some Microsoft games coming and the SSB reveal

Doom 2016 was quite a surprise too at the time as it was the first big AAA PS4/Xbone game to be brought to Switch and was a proof of concept that it could be done.

How many people ate crow. The species is borderline extinct now because of it. Peta hates Nintendo even more now.

Splatoon 2

Never expected to love so much a multi-player TPS

Still not over I've lost my progress when I've changed my Switch 

Hopefully Splatoon 3 will be a new addiction
