Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu sales: Week 38, 2021 - (13th Sept - 19th Sept)

As I really like the neat tables, I updated the one from last week with the new values. Please check if I did anything wrong.

Thanks, OP. And yes, we may need you to make an archive thread for these posts like that at at Era.

Speaking of which, I went looking for the latest Famitsu sales thread at Era only to see that something went down and apparently Chris1964 is gone after many years of running those threads. I don't keep up with internet drama all that much, so I had no clue. I'm just interested in sales data.

Where go Chris, hiska-kun and Celine?

Does everybody go to discord?

So, if anyone needs my help for Media Create/Famitsu tread, send a message.

So the Switch's 2020 is now above 2021, but the OLED will hopefully save Team 2021.

Expected drop for Tales of Arise.

A smoother drop than I thought would happen

Thanks for submitting the table, I've copied it to the OP as well.  I've run into the same issue as you with the formatting of the raw table on this forum and have also had to submit screenshots in past posts.

As for why I hadn't included it earlier, it's because the site I usually use (perfectly-nintendo.com) hasn't updated their site yet.  They typically have the table for hardware and extra data for software as well.  I fear that site may have been getting their data from the Resetera thread each week, which could mean they won't be able to post it any more.  We'll see what happens but my work to submit this thread may have to go up a bit if I want to provide the same data every week from now on.

Xbox Series X|S sold 4,376 units. That means it is now 36074 ahead of the Xbox One launch aligned.

With the Nintendo direct, OLED launch and a fantastic fall line-up, Switch is about to have it's strongest Q4 to date in my opinion. This will lead to strong momentum heading into 2022 when we get Arceus, Splatoon 3, Breath of the Wild sequel, Monster Hunter Rise expansion, Resident Evil Outrage and DQIII Remake;

With the lack of competition we can also expect Switch to gain additional audiences that used to be on the PlayStation allowing them to keep momentum in 2022.

The key title of 2022 in Japan is Splatoon 3 by far, the trajectory of the franchise is pretty clear and as I've said in the thread relating to the subject - I personally believe Splatoon 3 is the only title that could potentially challenge New Horizon in Japan
https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread/245219/splatoon-3-vs-new-horizon-in-japan-lifetime-predictions/1/#1

The franchise has gone from 2.5 million units sold to over 5 million units lifetime with the sequel. Splatoon 3 will have the benefit of far more time in the oven, and will be boosted immensely by the fact it's not launching at the start of the Switch life but rather during it's software peak with hardware sales which would be approaching 25 million. Along with the other huge titles or expansions coming next year, I think that even in a worse case scenario Switch won't fall below 5 million units of hardware - in fact I actually expect there to be a minimum drop YoY.

The other main contributing factor is Japanese third party support, just in 2021 third parties are going to sell more physical software than the previous 4 years; their support has finally arrived and this will make the Switch the first Nintendo device since 1994 to get the lion-share of third party software sales in Japan. When the PS5 is struggling to even get a 100K seller, the transition to Switch launch exclusivity for some franchises will be very swift as we've already seen with Baseball Spirits and the latest Musou Koei Tecmo is working on. This is a factor that constantly gets overlooked but the unprecedented shift in the market for third parties will provide Switch additional momentum until the successor comes out as there is virtually no where else to launch your games on in Japan - PS5 is a non-factor, XS is an even worse position than the PS5 and PC is a very small niche - leaving Nintendo and a super competitive mobile environment

Falcom will be the first to feel the pain as Kuro no Kiseki is heading for a very underwhelming opening on the PS4.. I can imagine that when they transition to the PS5 situation will be even worse

cross posting from COMG thread:

I guess Falcom doesn't want their franchises to grow in Japan. NIS is making more of an effort than them in the West with PC and Switch ports. Now the 4 upcoming Trails games are day n date for all versions.

PS5 is such a non factor that it gets more Japanese third party support than the Switch lol

Baseball Spirits had a collapse from the 2019 release with the new Switch exclusive release. I doubt it will stay exclusive.
